Looking for a warm neutral
Comments (1)Last summer I painted my kitchen and dining room BM Putnam Ivory. I liked it so much that I painted the attached living room the same color. When painting samples on the wall, I found that nearby colors had a huge impact on how colors looked. Putnam Ivory had no gray at all in any light - until I painted a 3'x3' patch over the yellow/gold walls in my kitchen. It looked gray in every kind of light, any time of day. I painted a few more samples of similar colors on the same wall, covering up all the yellow - and the first sample showed its true color, which is a nice warm cream. Good luck! Here is a link that might be useful: Putnam Ivory...See MoreLooking for advice on warm neutral for majority of 1st floor
Comments (1)I spent WEEKS deciding on paint colors for my house and went through probably 50 samples. It is so difficult because all true neutral colors look different on different walls and with different light. I finally decided on BM Aura "Stingray" and am very happy. It looks beautiful with white and with dark wood (I have old, original wood window frames, molding, and floors downstairs and white trim upstairs). I would suspect that with your NW light, the walls would look tan in the mornings and early afternoons with the direct sunlight, then they would gradually turn to a very soft green/gray that looks lovely with warm lighting. The best thing to do is to paint large swatches of color on white poster board and hold them up to different wall in different light throughout the day to see how the color changes. This way, you don't have a million color samples on your walls!...See MoreBest warm neutral Gray or Greige paint?
Comments (48)@Lori A. Sawaya I really have to thank you. Your questioning why the builder is so strict about only using SW colors motivated me to ask again. I explained that SW has the color-match formulas in their system, nationwide, etc. The home builder salesman I had been dealing with had never had anyone ask to color match & investigated further. I can color match! Also, I did get a SW sample of Behr Silver Drop. I had asked for a quart in a flat finish as that is what the builder will paint with. Miscommunication & I ended up with a jug of Silver Drop in the SW satin sample paint & a can of Silver Drop in a SW (Superpaint) flat finish. Three drywall boards of Silver Drop & 3 different colors. The salesman at SW had told me that the lighter color samples that use Extra White as the base are usually very slightly lighter than the regular paint. I'm going to continue my search & check out BM colors. I so enjoy your posts. We are very lucky that you so generously share your knowledge & expertise....See MoreWhat is your favorite neutral, warm but light paint color!?
Comments (21)@pink-peony, so pretty, are you doing the whole house with agreeable gray? I looked at that color a while back to re-paint the master, before the remodel started, why I thought it was a good idea to try and do a little project on my own leading up to a big one I don't know why (and by my own, I mean my husband would paint because the last time I did was a decade ago and it ended in tears). Any thoughts from folks about how to deal with the fireplace and walls in living room, I'm keeping it simple-no mantle, we have a gas insert with a decorative brushed nickel surround and an iron black trim....See MoreCeeWhy
