Common spaces in apartment building

Hi all.

I live in a coop. We have 8 apartments, two per floor over four floors.

Great place and great people. Lots of light.

Over the years, it has been let down and very little maintenance has been done. The 8 of us got together last week and decided to take charge and redo our common space. The board gave us a 1000$ budget.

So far, we are talking about :

- Giving a finishing touch and sanding all the patch jobs to the walls.

- Caulking the window frames.

- Sanding, repairing and painting the metal ramps (don't know what to do with the piece of wood running down the ramps, any ideas?).

- Giving love to the wooden stairs but keeping the carpet.

- Changing or improving the mail boxes.

- Repainting all the doors (one colour per door or all the same, we're not sure. Any suggestions?)

- Repainting all the walls (I want white with colour accents by the doors and windocovering but most people want to go with a colour on the walls, what do you think?)

- Some sort of window dressing but not sure what. It gets really warm in the summer. There's good heating in the winter. Any ideas?

- Eventually, we want to hang art and photographs on the wall, possibly our own.

- Think there might be enough space in between the floors to put some sort of a sitting situation but we are weary of fire safety.

I'll leave you with some pictures to give you a better idea.

Thank you for your ideas and suggestions.
