Did you choose/see your slabs and give the ok before purchasing?

We have not approved it. We needed two slabs. The fabricator said if they reorder the slab with the problem there is a possibility there will be a color issue as it will not be from the same lot. Unfortunately, I don't have a picture to post. The fabricator thought they could work around it, so we were not too worried. We found out today they cannot.

I have read on a number of threads in GW that it is difficult to see full slabs of Cambria prior to purchase. I don't know if this is always the case but there have been a number of discussions about this. Some say it is Cambria policy and some say it is the fabricators.

Can they keep keep both, and order you two new ones to avoid the color issue? If you are like me, you will cringe every time you see it. I would push for two new ones.

Resin pooling can occur in ANY quartz brand. It’s NOT considered a defect in any brand.

Another reason to choose a natural stone.

Have you tried working with Cambria? In most cases I have found they always want to make things right, in this case you caught the problem before cutting which is ideal.

I have the same issue with new counters from Cambria. A huge mark in one of my islands. It’s in the worst spot ever. I am really upset. Basically I am told to deal with it

Cambria is a fine material but as has been repeatly discussed on this forum, you MUST go to a warehouse to choose, tag, and photograph your slabs. If your fabricator says you cannot, then find another fabricator or choose another product. I have used Cambria on four different projects with four different fabricators, and I learned this lesson the hard way. Save for my first rodeo — bad resin pools — I have insisted on chosing my slabs and have always been alowed to do so.

IMO one more reason to avoid fake palstic counters.

For both quartz and granite you need to see the slabs and pick your slabs. Granite often has resin infused to strengthen any flaws in the stone. They are also sometimes visible and not attractive.

Simple solution - have them order two more slabs or find out where you can go locally and pick your slabs.

Cambria says that is not possible

What that means is, there isn't an A frame of Cambria slabs lying about waiting for the scrutiny of potential customers. Your fabricator orders Cambria slabs; Cambria ships them. If the fabricator kisses the slab with a sawblade, he owns it. He can send it back beforehand. There is no rule that says you can't approve the Cambria slabs before fabrication has begun.

I go to the nearest warehouse — usually a Marva distributor — and never had issues picking slabs. It is a 5 hour round trip drive for me, but well worth it after my first Cambria debacle. I do love their product and much prefer it over stone. Cambria has been bulletproof for me every time i install it.

We ended up getting lucky. We actually only needed one slab although two came in for us. The designer said we needed two, and the fabricator thought so, too. We did not. They were able to rework the layout with the one slab and fit all the pieces. The sales representative for the fabricator was awful to work with. She didn't care and tried repeatedly to make us believe we were stuck with it. I wanted new slabs, and she insisted that they would only reorder one slab and the color would not be exactly the same. She was not willing to order two, and at this time they thought we needed two. We were very relieved when they realized they could fit everything on one slab. My husband and I are grateful we made the long drive to see the slabs when they came in. Seacourt is primarily white, very white, with some dashes of very light gray and what they call honey. This took more than two weeks to resolve. It wasn't until our designer from the store we ordered the Cambria through talked to Cambria's representative. She called me back to tell me that the Cambria representative actually said they wanted us to be happy and ordered two more slabs for us. We had just learned the fabricator could make it work with just one slab shortly before we learned this. We appreciated Cambria's willingness to order two additional slabs. It was the right thing to do. I am so sorry Cambria did not do that for you. The other slab had some very minor issues, but the fabricator did work around them because they were primarily on the edges. Aesthetics matter. They can say resin pooling is normal; that should not make it acceptable. Common sense should tell anybody a very dark gray, nearly black mark on a white piece of quartz is unacceptable. Some resin pooling might blend on darker quartz slabs or busy designs, but it sure did not and could not possibly blend on Seacourt. It was very conspicuous.
