Old stone stoop repairs

Joanne

I’m having a new walk and plantings installed in front of my house, and part of the job (working with a LA) involved removing and levelling the two large stones that make up my front stoop. The guys took it apart today and make some adjustments on the undersides of the large stones and added a row of belgium block under the bottom step, presumably to correct the step heights.

The guys used ”cement” in the crack where the lower stone meets the riser. I sent him an email as soon as I saw it this evening, saying that unless this cement was going to dry a LOT lighter, I preferred to have the gap instead. I haven’t heard back from him yet.

I’ve never seen cement this color in my life. Thoughts?
