Ordering pet food, & another Amz gripe

From here on out I'm ordering from Chewy. I've had it up to HERE with super late or no delivery of Amz prime pet food, which I pay dearly for once a year, and we order hundreds of dollars of pet food and supplies from Amz. We have two large over a hundred pounds each dogs, and 4 cats that are addicted to cat crack. And once more the crack I ordered for the cats is delayed with no ETA. There's about a cup left and I hope I don't have to hide from them like last time.

Not only that, Amazon is sky high in pet food prices. Why? I thought they were supposed to match other store's pricing. They charge a lot more on pet food too.

IMPORTANT QUESTION FOR CAT OWNERS. Because Amz is late with the Temptations I ordered, I went ahead and ordered Greenies feline dental pet treats to hold the addicts over untiil the uncut crack comes in from Chewy. ;) Have your cats eaten it and did they like it?

Why is both cat and dog food from Amz taking so long to get here, or doesn't arrive at all, when it's in the states, and everything else I order from Amz arrives on time??

PSA: Unless you've had your head in the sand, shipping from other countries is getting worse by the day so we need to order Christmas stuff now.

Artificial trees and decor is going up sky high in price.

My brother had his possessions shipped from Thailand in July. The ship is sitting off the California coast still.

Bpath, I did a double take when I saw all the ships waiting to unload, and then it was said it would take two weeks. Aren't they outside San Francisco? It was bad a few months ago and now it's even worse.

I still want to know why Amazon can't ship pet food on time since it's made here. Mine went to Tulsa about three days ago. Nowhere to be found.

I hate the cell phone drivers as well, but okay *gulp* I am a speeder:( but I NEVER EVER honk at anyone, and I never ride bumpers either, I just wait for a time when I can pass them, and I have issues being in the lane of incoming traffic (even if no one is coming at the time) so okay I am normally up to around 90 by the time I pass them (note* in a 65-70 zone, not a 35 or so) I do a lot of highway driving. I try to be a polite driver, but I am sure I have irritated some, I know most of it is the fact I do drive a 8 cyl, and it never seems happy unless it is cruising around 80 (Mustang) Now in town it is a whole nother ball of wax, I usually have other people hauling you know what around me, glaring at me with their hand glued to their ear. I don't have any tickets on my record and I do try to keep it that way but Another thing I do (boy I am really telling on myself here) is I get up to speed as fast as I can shift it to the speed (5 over is the most I ever do in town, I would die if I ever caused a wreck) but most every one else goes 55 in the 45's in town so that is probably why the police usually no more then spare me a glance. I did get warned the other morning, I was late to work on our hwy that has a 55 speed limit, there is a hill about a block from where I turn out, I was at about 62 when I crested the hill, and a state trooper was on the side of the road and he turned on his parking lights when I got close to him, oops! I went 55 all the way down the rest of the hwy (with a car so close to my bumper I almost could not see his headlights I might add) Okay, Okay here is my gripe, people that visit in the middle of the supermarket aisle and ignore you even after you have said excues me (DH will go a head and move their cart over himself which gives me fits as a lot of the time the persons purse is sitting in the front of the basket and I sure don't want them thinking he is trying to snatch their purse) it is really bad at our main big box store, you can never find a parking spot (of course I always park in the gardening area so I can check out what is new in the tropicals, but DH has gotten wise to this) He parks in the automotive part, it is always insane at that store, and people are just so rude even if they aren't conversing they keep their cart right in the middle, so if it is just me I do a lot of turning around and going all the way around to get what I need. I always say I am going to boycott, but darnit it is convenient and they know this.

I used Iams for over 17 years - then the dogs didn't seem to do so well on it any more. So 1.5 years ago I switched to Nutro dry kibble. In the month or so before the wet food recall, I noticed my dog's coats weren't as nice, they vomited on/off yellow frothy stuff, and they avoided eating it until the last moment before we went to bed. Sometimes I had to encourage them with people food on it. These are dogs that are 12, have always willingly ate dry kibble, live indoors with us, and never over eat. The vet and I attributed it to hunting dogs doing what they like to do on our long daily walks (we live in the middle of nowhere, where there are many tasty temptations on the trails). Then around the first part of March, one of mine had violent seizures for the first time in her life at age 12. There is a family history; her brother has mild seizures 2-3 times year. so mild we don't medicate for them; and I know they can spring up at any age, so truly that is the most likely answer. However, that day I stopped feeding the Nutro, and began home cooking cold turkey. That strange vomiting with both dogs ended that day (despite the fact I thought switching to such a rich home cooked diet would cause some upset). Coats sleeked back up in short order. Please knock on wood for us, but no seizures yet (I still am reluctant to connect that to the food, because of the dog family history, but need to put it out there because I do think there is something less than fatal in this food that was at the least causing the vomiting/tummy upsets. My girl had a cluster of 6 in less than 24 hours, and it took days before she was "normal", ie pacing for hours, some vision issues, couldn't sleep, wobbly legs, etc.) It was a nightmare. Then I heard about the wet food recall. I thought I was a food snob. I did ask questions, but 1) how can I know if I am not told truthful answers re QC and ingredient issues, and 2) frankly, accidents like a bad batch of X can happen - to both pet and human grade food. I don't know what to think now, except that if commercial wet food has issues with rat poison, plastics poison, god-knows-what-else is still in it that is causing problems less than death in it, too much Vitamin D (the Royal Canin lawsuit, which btw, I had tried the cat food years ago and it was simply awesome at the time, but still, they screwed up)... well, I can guarantee that as a home cooker, I can be more careful than that. I am just lucky that I can make the time to home cook - what a burden that would be in other circumstances for a lot of people. The cat would be harder to do a good home job with; so I am trying Felidae dry kibble. P.S. The store and Nutro were very stand up about taking our returned sacks of dry kibble for full credit.

Years ago there was a house in my area that had a big trash/burning pile near the road/ditch. When there was a big rain, it would wash the trash into the road ditch, and then 'flow' down toward the State Park lake. I passed it daily when I was walking and each day I grew more disgusted. I guessed too that it might be drawing or harboring rats. I reported it to the sheriff's office. Nothing was done. I reported it again. Nothing was done. Seems there was a problem with the prosecutor's office doing anything...as the family with the big trash pile was big, and they had a lot of potential 'votes'. I finally told the sheriff's office that if they could not get it cleaned up, I would be forced to contact the TV station community action team....and that maybe they could do a story with the big trash pile in the background. I also stated that I really did not want to have to do that, as it would/could give the county a 'black' eye. Guess what! Magically the big ole trash pile got gone and has not been back since. Possibly you can find out if what all they have on their property is legal. Too many junk vehicles qualifies it as a junk yard, and needs a permit/zoning. Possibly all the other junk would put it in that catagory too. Possibly they would have to put up a privacy fence or something to protect the public from the eyesore. I too think the speed bumps sound like a good idea....particularly where your gravel ends and theirs begins. That way they could not drag yours away, or spin it all off the drive at high speeds. Why not talk to a paving company about putting in whatever permanent bumps it would take to get the traffic slowed down and protect the drive? I would also note the vehicles coming and going if possible...what the vehicles are, when they come, and when they go. It sounds to me too like it is a drug dealing situation...Do a lot of the vehicles maybe just stay about 5 minutes? A friend of mine had a dealer as a neighbor in the rural years ago. He noted what vehicles where coming and going and that most stayed less than 5 minutes. After the county sheriff became aware of the situation, they frequently drove by real slow. Once the dealer was aware his place was being 'watched' by law enforcement, the activity slowed and finally stopped. Best of luck with your neighbors from hell. Sue

I'm grateful for the reminder, Bestyears. My husband is in charge of dog food, and he's not aware of what's going on in the stores. His company is considered "essential" and is staying open, so he's going in every day. I'm the one in charge of keeping up with what we need at home. After your reminder, I texted him to pick up a bag on his way home this evening. Just one big bag--not hoarding, but certainly not putting our old girl in intestinal danger.

I also switched to Chewy several months ago. Cat food (dry) went up about 50%. It was always late or canceled for no reason and I was using the subscribe and save. It's a crap shoot whether I can find it locally. I finally checked out Chewy and have no complaints.

In additon to Chewy, look at hollywoodfeed.com I shopped at their stores in AL and now order dry dog food online. Still ordering canned dog food from Chewy. Best place to get cans that do not arrive dented. Amazon is THE WORST.

Chewy was out of the food I needed to buy a couple of weeks ago, but the rep helped me to find a good replacement. I agree, Amazon is the WORST to buy animal food from. I don’t trust it. Besides, why buy from them when Chewy has such amazing customer service?

My order from Chewy was shipped today. About how long will it take to get it? I have about an inch left of Temptations. I'm getting scared. Thinking about building a bunker.

The pet store we used to use went out of business and I need a particular food for my cats...I've looked at others and these make it for price and protein content. So now I order them from Pet Supermarket and have been very happy with their autoship service.

Oakley, you can track your package. If you go to your order, after it ships there should be a tracking number. They ship Fedex and mine get here normally about two days after they ship.

AR.girl, we do pickup from the store because Covid isn't real in my state. :) I'll get some at Walmart when I place an order, it's a 15 min. drive to and 15 drive back.

Never had this problem until this summer.

Cooper, do you mean from Chewy? I'll check it in a bit.

I checked tracking for the Temptations. Amazon says the package may be lost.

I tracked it from USPS tracking and it's had this status for a couple of days now.

It shipped from Tulsa, we're outside OKC. Now how hard is it to lose the package?? I'm not canceling yet.

So it must have got lost between the shipping partner IN Tulsa on the way to a post office IN Tulsa. lol

Yes Chewy. My cats get crazy too if the treats get low. I have one that actually looks at what's left. :)

Oakley, I don't know what's going on with USPS losing Amazon packages. They lost one of my packages, too, in a different area and I got the same message .

We get our pet food, treats, etc. from Chewy and haven't had a problem yet, as far as I know. My son does the ordering and hasn't mentioned any problems.

I wouldn't cancel yet. You may still get. Some of our packages are not showing tracking at times. It's weird.

fwiw, I get my Chewy deliveries the next day. It's awesome. In AL it was 2-3 days, depending on day I ordered.

I may have figured out the delay but it doesn't explain why Amz says the package may be lost. Did you know the USPS change delivery times on certain mail last Friday? Which was the day I placed my order.

What will happen to Amazon Prime?

Tractor Supply has a good variety of dog and cat food. I have never seen any shortages on the shelves! The rewards program gives you $$ off every so often. They will ship, or you can order ahead and pick up.

Oak, I get my boxes w/in 24 - 48 hours from the time I order. The reason I usually end up calling customer service is because a couple of times I’ve made an error with my order (or they’re out of something I need). They’ve always refunded me for the error and told me to just donate what I can’t use. The other day, they helped me find a suitable replacement and then waived shipping for me. My sister had placed a large order and later that day, her dog passed away. She called to cancel the order and the next day sympathy flowers were delivered to her. If you’ve ordered and don’t get it within 48 hours, just contact them via the chat. It’s quick and easy.
