Comments (8)I think you may have been look at the centigrade side of the chart. Seattle hasn’t reached 0F since 1950. Since 2010 the record low has been 14F. https://www.currentresults.com/Yearly-Weather/USA/WA/Seattle/extreme-annual-seattle-low-temperature.php The design day temp is 24F http://www.seattle.gov/documents/Departments/SDCI/Codes/SeattleEnergyCode/2012SECWAAppendixC.pdf The RH numbers from cardinals site are indoor levels. In my neck of the woods I can’t conceive of a house naturally getting to 50% indoor humidity when it is 20F outside, and out average outdoor RH hovers around 65% at that time of year. That said, I certainly defer to Windows on Washington’s real-world experience in your area. You climate is sufficiently mild that there may not be much practical benefit from i89. If the home is tightly sealed enough such that you have an indoor RH in excess of 50% when it’s well below freezing outside, you probably should have an ERV/HRV. High indoor humidity when it’s that cold out will likely cause other problems over time....See MoreAndersen 100 vs Milgard Trinsic?
Comments (10)Andersen 100 -- but we regret the choice. We weren't able to see a sample in person before ordering so we went off of photos and here's what we learned: The Milgard Hardware is easier to use, looks cleaner and the frame is much thinner. It feels less sturdy, however, when you operate the windows. That said, both the A100 and Milgard "feel" cheap to me. Neither is particularly sturdy. The A100 is more rigid, but the frame is very thick and the frame material feels like PVC pipe (not a compliment). The hardware on the A100 is cheap, breaks easily and is not easy to use (tiny little buttons). We did not do casement, we did sliders so maybe casement feels better in terms of operation/hardware, but I wouldn't know. If I had to do it all over again, on a similar budget, looking at single hung vs casement, I'd go with Milgard vinyl, no question....See MoreAndersen 100 vs Milgard Ultra
Comments (2)We have Milgard Ultra and a very happy with them. They have a lifetime guarantee for the original owner. We had to have one sheet of glass replaced (because of a defect that could only be seen at night) and they were quick to respond. We also had to have a huge opening window adjusted and again they were very responsive. We did look at Anderson Fibrex, but were a bit put off because it has wood fiber in it. We live on the water and our winter climate is stormy, cold, rainy and has occassional snow. Our summer temps range from the 70s to as high as 100 degrees. The window frames (and the glass) have performed as we anticipared…beautifully. We think the extra cost was well worth it....See Moreskz3852
