I’ve done the reverse. When food processors became ’hot’ I scoffed and wouldn't get one. When MIL died I inherited hers. I use it several times a week and find it really useful.

I've avoided the issue some of you have with kitchen appliances. We try to limit the number of single purpose kitchen items we have. Especially those that provide nothing but a different piece of equipment to do what we already can do - so no toaster overs, no grills (have one for the range and another outside), no crock pots or instapots. No need to cook either in a hurry or all day.

Gadget- pineapple corer/slicer. Several in my family were each gifted one. Only one person has used hers. Also a jar lid opener. It was too big to keep on the cabinet. I donated it to a resale store. It has been on their shelf for months.

Bookwoman and foas, which Cuisinart product are you referring to ? I assume you meant a food processor, but they make so many small appliances.

We use all the small appliances we have now, but in the past we've ditched several. A George Foreman grill and an electric rotisserie oven are two that quickly come to mind. I'm sure there were others that have faded from my memory.

I have none of these things except a foreman grill which I found doesn't make paninis nearly as well as my panini maker.

Not something I bought, but received as a birthday gift. The Dyson Corrale hair straightener. And I don't feel right about selling or getting rid of it, because it was a gift.

Air fryer accessory for instant pot. Use the instant pot, the air fryer much less.... yes some egg poaching gadgets... the popsicle forms that looked fun... the ice cream machine... the second waffle iron... wow this is getting embarrassing. I do, however, use the rice cooker. It is not hard to cook rice without it, but takes a lot more attention. Set it and forget it -- awesome.

Fitbit (I'm not actually sure it was that brand, though. Nike?). I didn't mind wearing it, but it didn't inspire me to be more active at all, so it just became an unattractive bracelet.

Vitamix. I don't regret buying it and used it extensively for 2 or 3 years, but then I just lost the desire for morning smoothies, which is what I used it for. It's still around, in case I go back on the morning smoothie kick.

Not that I bought but asked for as gifts. Roomba. Vitamix (we do use it from time to time but not nearly enough.) Bought a rice cooker for DH who can, indeed, mess up rice (don’t take off the lid while it is cooking!) We would use it except the steam from the little steam outlet is starchy and makes a mess).

Wow, we use our Foreman grill a LOT. And the breadmaker not so much now that DH works from home and likes to bake by hand, and our true bread fiend DS has moved out. But still use it from time to time.

Nothing, but I wanted to make a comment about the George Forman grill. I go to thrift shops all the time, and you can find just about anything in one, except what you are looking for....then even though you have seen one there in the past, you are not apt to find it when you decide to go looking for it. However, that doesn't apply to the George Forman. I have not been in a thrift shop in a very long time that does not have a George Forman grill. I noticed it so often, that I have made a point to check now every time I go in one....just out of curiosity. Yep....always have a George Forman grill. Always. The other day I was in Walmart and I over heard a group of young women...looked to be college kids maybe...and they were shopping and one said, "The George Forman's are over this way" as they took off in that direction. I was tempted to run after them and tell them to go to any thrift shop, but I didn't.

I am wondering if I am in denial, because nothing comes to mind. I was given a bread maker as an engagement or wedding present, tossed it pretty quickly. My mother bought a Vitamix in the 80s, pretty over powered for Margaritas if you ask me ;-)

I should have listed my 30 year old Juicer machine. We used it once to juice blackberries we grew at the time. I dusted it off the other day to juice some pomegranates that we're now growing. It still works, and it's still a mess to clean up.

Foreman’s are also at every rummage sale. In fact, I bought DS a mini one for his first apartment, just right for one chicken breast, burger, or toasted sandwich. He uses it still.

Crock pot is the first thing to come to mind, followed by Dutch oven. I do use the Dutch oven for deep frying, but nothing else, and I do not deep fry that often anymore.

I had a Panasonic bread maker, but I found that I had to mix all the ingredients together by hand before adding them, to avoid streaks, and so when it died, I got rid of it and never replaced it. I now use a Danish dough whisk for mixing bread and pizza dough, and it's also good for making pancakes.

I much prefer making bread by hand (or with the stand mixer) than in a bread machine. I have a stand mixer in L.A. that I use frequently, but I have to use the Danish dough whisk in Cathedral City, but that is really not an issue.

I find that I use the dry container for my Vitamix more often than the wet container. I have a different blender that I use for Margaritas.

Lordy!! I couldn't survive without my Dutch oven!! It's a big, heavy Le Creuset that has seen better days (wedding present from 40 years ago) but gets used with incredible frequency, even in my single occupant household. Soups, stews, chilis, pot roasts, pulled pork, curries, rustic breads, rice pilau, applesauce - you name it, I use my Dutch oven for it!!

I don't cook stews, chilies, pot roasts, pulled pork, applesauce, or rustic breads, and I prefer to use my pressure cooker for soups and rice. I have made seafood gumbo in my Dutch oven, but I don't make it very often, although I would like to.

Thumbs up for dutch ovens, I have 3. I didn't mention them because I think they're the opposite of hot. A stark contrast to single purpose items - you can use them for many different things and different ways. Stovetop, in the oven, and with some recipes, both ways. I too use them often. Essential for no knead bread too.

Yes, very heavy.

The one thing I do use it for regularly is to smooth out spaghetti sauce. The kids don’t like chunks. But I certainly don’t need a $600 blender for that.

No George Foreman here, but I do have a panini press that I don't use often. I don't think I've used it at all this year.

I don't know about 'hot item', but I did buy a Staub 12" Chicken Al Mattone griddle and ceramic press set. Killer sale price, but irrelevant because I've never used it. It weighs a ton. Truly, over 15 pounds on the shelf. My glass top stove recoils in horror if I even take it out of the box ;0)

I got a whole set of stainless steel Wedgewood Everyday pots/pans & I only use the grilling pan.......out of the whole set! I use my anodized Magnalite set....still. Not as pretty, but the gas doesn't discolor it. I have a $2 spiralizer I've never used. But some day....I might use it. ☺

I usually use gadgets until they wear out...then don't replace them if the "old fashioned method" was better.

Since DD moved out, my single waffle maker has been used a handful of times. I was given one of those hot sandwich makers, which DD used, but once again, after she moved out, it moved out too. I bought a small loaf bread maker at an estate sale (brand new) - seemed like it would be great for me (I love hot bread), used it twice, and after years, I think finally donated it. I should check the basement for it. I also bought an ice cream maker - one of those small ones that you froze the inner core and hand turner the stirrer - back in the 80s. I did use it, to make low fat/low sugar conconctions, but I don't recall why I pitched or gave it away. I bought another, large one some years later but never took it out of the box and eventually donated it also.

The Foreman grill is another story though; I bought it to use while renovating the kitchen, and it proved so handy then! I still use it, especially for fish. It seems to get hot enough, and cooks things quickly. In fact, I used it earlier today to cook 2 salmon fillets from frozen for my broccoli slaw & salmon lunch.

Toronto Veterinarian, I bought a Fitbit earlier this summer. I didn't use any of the apps on it, except for counting steps. I could have just gotten some kind of mechanical device to do that. I sold it on Kijiji last month.

That’s what I used to use until I was looking for a use for my Vitamix. The Vitamix is better for me. No splatter, for one. I’m talking jarred sauce, not sauce in a pot which I’d do with the stick blender.

George Foreman grill, yep a waste. Also salad spinner, brownie pan, Pampered chef garic peeler, toaster oven, mini crockpot and donut maker. I do love my bread machine. I'm glad some people dont like them. I've never had to buy a new one. I rarely bake bread in it, but i use it the majority of the time for mixing the dough for rolls and buns. I don't like kneading dough.

Not a 'hot' item, by far. But I donated my toaster 10 years ago, when we became empty nesters. DH and I realized we didn't always need to heat up the wall oven for a meal for just the 2 of us. Our toaster oven has every feature as our oven, can handle a pizza and of course, toasts as well. We use it for many meals that don't require using a heavy item, like our dutch oven, or spacing something out on a large cookie sheet. So rather than keep both a toaster oven on the countertop as well as our 4 slice toaster, we donated the latter and have never missed it.

LOL!! I had an entire panoply of Le Creuset cookware at one time but gave it all away when I moved and downsized, except for the Dutch oven. All the other pieces could be - and were - easily replaced by something less cumbersome. But not my Dutch oven!! That one's a keeper! In fact, I bought a smaller Lodge one (same color) because I find them so incredibly useful.

I just made braised short ribs in it the day before yesterday :-)

Fit bit, tried to start using it again a few weeks ago walking at work but it soon ran out of battery power and I never recharged it. Now I am at home with no sidewalk in the neighborhood to walk around so I don't.

My big heavy iron dutch oven went up in the cabinet when I got my instant pot last year. I use it all the time. I gave the dutch oven to my daughter but I think it's still up in the cabinet over my fridge because she had so much junk to take to her little apartment.

I have never been susceptible to name brands, in or trendy stuff. I am more of a how does it really function and how well is it built person. I have learned to keep quiet on the which fill in the name brand should I get type posts and the I am a superior foodie because I am foolish enough to pay top price for everything posts.

Deep fryer is gone....we do not eat deep fried food anymore. Also ditched the Crock Pot, ice crusher, cordless mixer, rice maker, Shark vacuum and George Forman grill. I use my Instant Pot several days a week, love my Le Creuset dutch oven also.

Never had a George Foreman Grill, Air Fryer or a bread machine. I do have (and use) a slow cooker and a Dutch oven (I have two sizes). So I think it must have been the rice cooker years ago that I only used a couple of times. I was always able to cook rice just fine on the stove top.

Jack Lalanne juicer. Opened the box to use first time 9 months ago after bought it 20 some years earlier. I still use it occasionally since then, mostly make carrot/beet juice for drinking and use in cooking.

For me it's the Instant Pot. I got a good deal on it when I first bought it and I used it fairly often but then everything started tasting the same to me. I had accumulated a ton of recipes that I put in a binder. I gave the pot and the binder to my friend's daughter.

I haven't owned a microwave in many years. I didn't use it to cook, only heat water and I can easily do that on the stove.

I use my crockpot all the time and my hot air corn popper. I don't have many other gadget type things.

I know i've gotten rid of a George Foreman grill, a rice cooker and a waffle iron and a griddle over the years. Of course I don't fancy myself as any kind of cook so I really don't need stuff like that. :)

I'm glad to see I'm not the only person who doesn't use a microwave. I got ride of mine maybe 10 years ago, and don't miss it at all. I actually have one now (over the range) that was here when I bought the place, and I never use it. One day I'll replace it with a proper exhaust hood.

I'm not susceptible to electric kitchen gadget fads...I do have a 40 year old crock pot that saw a lot of use when I was married and working. I've used it more recently for things like keeping turkey dressing or mashed potatoes warm while prepping holiday meals, as well as caramelizing onions or making a batch of applesauce to freeze or can. But even those days are about over.

I don't have a rice cooker, instapot, GF grill, breadmaker, juicer or any of those type trendy (for most people) items. The one thing mentioned here that I do have, that I cannot live without, is a Cuisinart - my first purchased over 40 years ago. I use it nearly every day. I hate to chop, so I chop most everything in it. I have a mini I use for things like a few cloves of garlic or a small quantity, like making salad dressing; otherwise I use the large one.

Probably the least used is a Cuisinart Ice Cream maker that I bought to make ice cream with my grandson and his friends. It was fun, but we eat so little ice cream that it sits unused.

I would love to use the GF grill if it got good and hot but it just doesn't. I have left it plugged in for a really long time thinking that it just took a while to get good and hot but it didn't really get hot enough. I really wanted it for making steaks but it just seems to steam them...UGH! It's OK for chicken though. I think my biggest gripe is the non-stick isn't of the greatest quality and it's hard to clean. I kind of wish they made an appliance like this that was cast iron and would get screamin' hot for making a quick steak! :) That's my invention of the day! HAHA!

I'd like to think I stay away from the fads of the day, and I mostly have. I did have a bread maker that ended up getting recycled. Same thing with the pasta maker. They took up too much space, didn't get used enough and I never liked what they produced.

Many of the things previously listed are things I love and use frequently - dutch oven, KA stand mixer, cuisinart, air fryer, rice maker and sous vide. The key may be to hold off when something is new and hot and really think about how much you will use it. I've been doing that lately and making better choices.

Arkansas girl, I wonder if you have a later/different model of the GF than mine? So quality has gone down? or you just have a lemon. Mine does seem to get plenty hot (but I haven't tried cooking a bone-in steak with it), and I find it very easy to clean - I wipe it with a wet sponge or paper towel while it is still hot. I bought mine used, so I don't actually know how old it is.

I cannot think of anything. When it comes to kitchen stuff, I tend to buy things I may NOT exactly NEED, because it is pink. But I get such joy from them I use them. I did not need a pink rice cooker. I can cook rice in a pot on the stove. But I use it to cook rice because I HAVE A PINK RICE COOKER!!!!! I do not use my pink Kitchen aid stand mixer much, but I would never get rid of it, the times I do use it it is so helpful it makes sense to have one. I do not use my immersion blender more than twice a year, but I love it. Yes, its pink.

Now, for other things, I look to SO. He wanted a drone, used it twice. He wanted night vision binoculars, used them maybe three times. He has a whole closet in our home dedicated to stuff he had to have but its still in the packaging because he wants to "save" it. (eye roll)

A donut maker. It was just like a waffle maker but the shapes were donuty. Kinda like the donut hole maker fad a few years ago.

In the early 1980's I started to buy microwave utensils like a hot dog maker and also a steamer. I still have the strainer part of the steamer but learned to use pyrex and corning in the microwave.

Bread makers always look like fun but we don't eat a lot of bread in my house and it wouldn't get used much. The Wedding gift ice cream maker was wisely returned to Marshall Fields.
