Flaky network connections - again

Off and on I've had network connection issues. Currently, the problem seems to be losing the internet periodically for up to 30 minutes. This may happen every day, and sometimes twice in a day. When this happens I restart the cable modem or the router, run the Windows troubleshooter, or do nothing. Because, when I do nothing, it comes back on its own, I don't know which of the things I did mattered. The cable modem is supplied by the cable company, the router is a fairly expensive linksys on ($350, I think). Any suggestions?
