Good rescue! Japanese themed - that is Fujiyama - and fairly recent, probably Malaysian or Chinese made. It could look stunning if you painted it glossy teal, or painted and glazed it to enhance the carvings. Line the interior with a patterned kimono-look fabric. (totally over the top)

It looks like the "Italian Provincial" or loosely classified "Mediterranean" style that was popular in the 1960s and 1970s. The checklist of features: iron grillwork, fake flyspecks on the finish, crudely carved scrollwork mixed with delicate reeding and edges, and the relatively short base and tall display area.

I agree 60s or 70s is when that style was popular. Yours is nicely done--French provincial can look a little corny just as easily as it can look fabulous. I'd be surprised if there isn't a label inside a drawer or something. They aren't worth much around here currently--nothing old is unless it's MCM. But it's certainly pretty and practical enough to keep!

If you can save the finish, great! Refinishing is a terrible job. But having dealt with something that looks like that, I suspect that it will not cooperate and reamalgamate (which is a totally legit thing if you have the correct finish for it). It's certainly worth trying. Unfortunately, this style of furniture isn't very valuable but on the bright side, that means you can do what you need to do to find it a place in your home (please don't paint it). If it requires refinishing, so be it. I would stay faithful to the original stain as much as possible, not because it's a museum piece but because it just looks good. Even a little scruffy, it's still elegant. You don't HAVE to do anything.
