The L shape baseboard is a good solution for the situation. Shame on that installer threatening to just leave. That's wrong. Next time someone in your house threatens to leave, let them & find someone else. Pay installments. Do not pay someone fully until it's done fully. A good Pro respects his clients wants. If the client wants something different sure no problem. More work = more pay. A change will cost more, but if client wants it, a Pro will happily find a solution & appreciate more work with more pay. I would not hire that person ever again. Thankfully, it wasn't a big job & it all worked out. Nice door, btw.

I tend to agree with GC, but hard to tell since you did not provide pictures. I am thinking about when you are in the bedroom, you would see the lighter color on the door frame, but then when the door is open, you would see the darker wood on the door itself. Seems odd to me. Again, without seeing a picture, I think that there would be a way to use the darker wood color with a more subdued color palette to get that softer feeling you are looking for. If you post some pictures, we may be able to come up with some solutions for you.

I commented on the pictures before I read what you wrote! We got new garage doors last spring and I was surprised how inexpensive they are. We got black garage doors. My husband recently put Styrofoam insulation in them and it’s made a big difference in the heat. For the trim around your garage doors I would go as light as possible even the color of your current garage doors would look great as the body of the house and your trim it looks to be similar to Sherwin Williams alabaster.

Thank you Patrcia! The landscaping does need some work and the rosebushes have taken off this year which might be some of the problem. I had questioned the shutters on that window as well and wondered if installing a window box there would be a better idea as the house is so plain. My initial thought was to paint close to the brick color or a little darker, but I've already gone through a few paint samples and nothing looks good to me. Do you have any suggestions on a BM or SW paint that would look good? The reason I thought the black garage door would be a good ideas is because it may modernize the house a bit.
