Your door is perfectly suited to a Colonial style home, it just needs a bit of accessorizing. I'd spend my money on quality solid brass accessories--new handset, a knocker, mail slot,and a brass plate on the bottom. Add larger sconces, some potted plants, a decorative mat and a wreath, and it will look charming and welcoming.

are you DIY'ing it? Is it currently wood stain? In either case, the door needs to be completely sanded smooth. wipe w/mineral spirits and get off all the dust. Now prime. (if you're painting. If staining, wood conditioner, stain and a VARNISH clear coat w/UV protection) the prob w/a wood stain is thte color. as you can see this warm brown looks great w/your stone porch and even the white. Not so much w/the gray trim/shutters. Painitng, you'll need to prime w/an oil base primer. I like Zinnser in the can. once dry, fine sand again, wipe or blow off all dust. should feel smooth to the hand. now you can paint. **if you just slap paint over the way it is now, it's going to look like crap. sorry, but it will** If you're paying to have it done, it might be cheaper to look for a new front door. chec Craigslist. lots of front doors for sale on there. try to find one w/o the victorian looking glass here are some photshops. you decide (gave you some diff doors too) soft gray, same as the trim/shutters. (or you could do a shade darker) too much blue though and you see how it clashes w/your stone steps? I suppose painting over the gray is a no ? Black is also good. this style door too Iron Ore has a bit more brown too it which will work w/the stone try Iron Mountain as well. red is actually pretty nice. has to be the right red to work w/the stone (a red that leans toward the orange side as opposed to the blue side of the spectrum) This is also a nice shade Forest green?
