This rug - yay or nay?

Would appreciate any thoughts on this rug. The dining chairs are temporary by the way, we are thinking of picking up the navy blue Odger chairs from Ikea to go with the dining table (link: https://www.ikea.com/ca/en/p/odger-chair-blue-00360002/)

I was going for a lighter color, thinking more about a white backdrop. Saw this rug on the Ikea website - the price was good and so were the reviews. The pictures on the website looked a lot whiter to me:

We ordered online and did click and collect. After picking it up we decided to go in the store to browse, since it was a weekday night and less crowded. We did already notice that it was quite a bit darker than the pictures on the website, but wanted to try it out anyway since we’ve already picked it up.

With the other chairs i think it will look more of what your going for.

Nay. I think it clashes way too much with the flooring. You definitely need to take your floor into consideration when you’re looking at inspiration pics

Luckygal, branding has been around for a very long time. For example: Vernon and Irene Castle slapped their names on everything and anything you can imagine and stuff that you can't from candy to cigars, shoes, records etc. This was back in 1912. They were the pair that put ballroom dancing on the map and made it extremely popular. Irene set many fashions trends in her day including the incredibly ugly but very popular stove top hat and was one of the first to bob her hair setting off a new look for hair in the 1920's flapper. They owned nightclubs and dance studios. The Fred Astaire and Ginger Rodgers dancing that we all recall fondly in their old movies was based on Vernon and Irene's innovations in dance. My kids (aged 30 and 26) are not swayed by such nonsense and neither are their friends. I think there has always been (and always will be) people who feel safer purchasing something endorsed by a "name" and others who look for quality, value and style. I love your floors! I have dust allergies and cleaning a rug beneath a bed is difficult, therefore -- I have wood floors (and tile) throughout my house. I have a large 9x12 wool rug in my guest bedroom (for a queen size bed) -- but, only because it was in my dining room in my previous home and was expensive enough that I didn't want to part with it. In my master bedroom, I have a rug on the floor at the foot of my king bed. It may break decorating rules, but the only reason I have any rug in my bedroom is because my poodle can't jump off the bed onto the hardwood without sliding. It's a safety issue for her. In a warm climate (like yours), I don't see the need for rugs. But, if you want to warm it up, the Pro from Ethan Allen has given good visual decorating tips.

Yay for me too! I too would try to change the chair around but I'm okay with the table runner. For me a table runner is something I use when I don't have guests to protect the surface of my wood furniture. Which it appears is most of 2020. :-(

IMO The rug is absolutely beautiful! Keep it. But the lighting is not. Makes the room look like a doctors office. Ceiling light in this type of room doesn't do anyone any favors. Much better is a table lamp or wall sconce in each corner at chest height. You also need a peice of art over the tv - same width, but taller. You can go up to match where the window rod is. In fact, I’m thinking with those busy tiles “no rug”will probably be a better option. Nice table!

That’s disappointing to hear honestly. The tiles came with the house we purchased and it’s quite costly to break them up and replace them, and good contractors are hard to come by right now. That’s why we wanted to get a rug to cover most of it.

Nay. The floor is tan/brown tones but the rug has gray tones. Major clash.

I’d look for a SOLID COLOR that blends with the tan/brown floor. Tan or brown or ivory or green or navy or burgundy or just about any other color except grayish.

I don't think the rug is big enough (the pattern/color seem fine). You want a rug big enough that all the legs of the chair stay on the rug when you pull them out to sit down, otherwise the back legs of the chair run into the rug when you pull your chair in.

No. The color is cool but on top of a warm floor. And, it needs to be larger.

I agree - it needs to be larger, and the pattern/color don't play well with your floors.

I like your tile floor. Thinking maybe a solid color, perhaps with a band of color around it to blend

If you’re really set on a rug I agree a solid one (or nearly solid) in the right tone could work. But of course solid rugs aren’t always that practical in a dining room

Very busy tile, I think I’d like sisal or jute. Even a look alike to either would be fine. Both come in different shades, but jute comes in colors.

But if a mash like watercolor paint spray like this - and it blends with floor fairly well - try it.
