I had the same problem with Sheild Protector. i used 99% isopropyl alcohol. soaked a white cloth and rubbed the surface of the carpet. (we have nylon carpet and isopropyl doesnt damage nylon). The alcohol broke down the adhevsive and the sticky mess is gone. we let it dry, which was quick, vacuumed, did one more wipe over the area and let it dry. adhesive gone and the carpet looks fine. in fact a small stain we had before came out as well. I recommend this method for nylon rugs after using a formulated acrylic adhesive carpet protector. it worked great. one last tip, be sure to do this before walking on the area much, as the adhesive will get worked into carpet too deeply and it may not come off otherwise. get it while it is on the tip of the fibres.

It is a good observation dadoes. I do not have an answer. Mamapinky, when I finished washing with stpp the whole room had something it did not have before. So, I know that whatever ingredient it is was definitely strong and it was not in the clothes before. I have rinsed the clothes and the washer many times - with TOL detergent, with vinegar rinsed by hand. Nothing has made the clothes or the washer back to their original form again.

Shaving cream?? *shifty eyes* Floor guy was here today and he suggested paint thinner. Swore on his children's lives it won't hurt the floor. I'll try it out, since the shaving cream required quite a bit of elbow grease. I'll get some mineral spirits as well and report back!

I resorted to the Pam (it was lemon scented or flavored, many years ago, but I don't think the lemon had anything to do with the effect) because the usual trick of vinegar didn't work -- it wasn't just mineral deposits for me, the plumber's putty was part of the mix... I couldn't use LimeAway for fear of etching the porcelain -- not a worry for Randy Man. I just sprayed it on, let it sit, then scrubbed the build up off.
