Before you added the two frames on the right, my reaction was wanting to see the sectional pushed into the room about two feet, a floor lamp or tall plant behind the "V" of the sectional (so that it would have visually taken up the same wall space that the two newest frames now take up) and a sofa table behind the part that runs parallel to the kitchen. But it's really easy to say "I would like to see..." when I'm not the one who has to move furniture, patch holes, etc. :) I see a lot of family pictures around the house (reflection of the mantel shows some, I think I see one on the wall near the kitchen, etc.) What's the picture above your mantel? Could you "theme out" the smaller frames in something that would coordinate with there? Or do you already have pictures for them? I agree with a round bowl, but I'd want to see some colors in it. A blue piece, and an orange piece, pulling from the orange in that cute cream pillow on the couch. I'd also like to see some color on the far end of the couch (where there's just 1 brown and 1 blue pillow)... like replacing the blue one with a new fabric that had the same colors as that cream pillow again. To me, that pillow really becomes a visual focus so I keep wanting to see repeats of its "essence"... gah, can't believe I used that word. Right now with its bright color it just seems a little too lonely.

White or oak slab cabinets from the 1980's were said to be timeless with their clean lines. Now they make people barf. :) It's true that Shaker will always be around, as it has always been around, but it has been so ubiquitous for the last dozen years it's going to look tired and dated for awhile before it looks interesting and appropriate again. If you just love the look and have always wanted shaker cabinets, then you can do it, but if you really want an "updated" look, refinishing the plywood to make it look fresh and clean will do you better.

Wow it looks beautiful! I'm considering ordering RTA doors as well rather than having my current doors (also partial overlay) painted. Did you have the boxes professionally painted and was there an issue trying to match the pre-painted doors from barkers? Thanks so much and great job again!

Really nice kitchen. Liking the cabinets. Liking the two pair of double windows -- natural light is a huge plus for any room. Like the ceiling fan in the kitchen; a matching one would be a good look for an overhead light fixture in your dining room as well. Yet another reason to not tile that entire area. Not fond of the harvest gold color of the oven; however, if the oven still works, consider painting the door. Do like the light blue color of the refrigerator with your cabinets. If you keep that retro color for your appliances, you might consider an even lighter shade of blue for your wall color and look for a pale blue within your countertops and tile choices, too. You could make sure all the appliances are all the same color; while stainless steel is a good look, white is more "retro". You can paint appliances: Rust O'leum 2x spray paint -- enabling you to keep your retro appliances but updating them. You could remove that wall hung desk -- repurpose it elsewhere. Do keep the cornice over each pair of windows. You could add a shelf for microwave beneath high cabinets to the right of the paper towel holder. If you cannot match the wood finish of your cabinets, you could paint it your wall color. Rather than add tile to cover the entire area between countertop and overhead cabinets -- definitely not a retro look -- you could stay with a single 4"-6" horizontal backsplash on a new countertop if the countertop you have is worn and in need of replacement. Unless you have a lot of plastic freezer/storage containers and/or glass canning jars or something else for which you need the space above the cabinets as storage-- unless you NEED that storage space above the cabinets, you probably shouldn't open up that space unless you're going to put top hinge doors over those spaces -- or unless you really like climbing up a ladder and dusting. If you choose either white and/or stainless steel appliances, consider shades of gray tile flooring and pale gray for the walls. Keep us updated.
