Did anybody lose Rainforest Sunrise this winter?
Comments (15)I had to smile about the phase "evil twins". I had no issues with Great Expectations. I have 2 (rescued from the nursery at the end of season as babies) and they have grown well for the last 3 years, every year the eye count increases and the texture and leaf shape and color are absolutely the best (in my opinion). RS on the other hand seems to be less reliable for me. I actually lost one 2 years ago so I got more last year. I will wait for a few more days. All of my hostas have pipped out except 2 on the north side of house (El Nino and First Frost). I am hopeful at least one of the RS will survive. Babka, I will check for other damages if I can locate the roots. Thanks for the info. Vivian...See MoreRainforest Sunrise problems
Comments (20)I bought it 3 years ago, but I abused it horribly in the first year, not knowing that it should be in a pot deeper than 6'! Earlier this year it looked like this: http://st.hzcdn.com/simgs/f3b2872807244df1_8-7046/home-design.jpg Imagine ^^^that fully unfurled and with a couple scapes, one fasciated ;)...See MoreRainforest Sunrise replacement for Maui Buttercups
Comments (4)Thank you both. That’s a useful comparison photo of both plants, Kathy. Your RS looks like it has larger leaves than MB, unless that’s a trick of the photo angle. I really do like the bright yellow of mine in the pot, from the nursery. But I like the yellow green, too, as long as it does not darken too much. The sun RF will have in the old MB spot will be early afternoon. What colors will be in this bed this year will be different than in the past, though. I lost a center branch of the overhanging pine due to snow weight in late spring. The huge old Frances Williams that loved it here better than any of the 4 locations I have put it, is bleaching on one edge. Ditto the Gold Standard that has been moved around along with FW....See MoreYour fave mid size hosta?
Comments (39)An Update Question: Being the pessimist that I can be re plants, I have a sneaking suspicion that I many of these late planted LT may not be around come this spring. As a work around (if there are losses) I was toying with the idea of making the border alternate between redistributed surviving LT with some small, shade tolerant grass eg a carex of some sort. I am hoping that some of you might have photos of such an alternating border ie grass than hosta, grass than hosta etc....See MoreBeth (5b - SE-Michigan)
