ID, please. Friend or Foe?

I uncovered this while clearing out a brushy fenceline. It was comoletely covered in porcelain vine. Should I keep it or will it be a problem?

I would say it’s a Viburnum but I know little about them so I can’t help with a species.

I'd guess a viburnum as well. But there are so many different ones and I am only familiar with those that are planted readily in my area. Can't be any more precise about species.

OH, I was hoping for good news and this was a surprise "friend". The shovel will be out in the AM and it's getting dug out real quick and hubby will burn it for me. Don't want to just toss it somewhere or have it collected with the lawn refuse that is picked up by the trash men. Just in case though, I will keep my roundup posion ivy and brush spray handy. Only pesticide I ever use, but the poison ivy is not something I let go as too many family members have deadly severe reactions to it. Fran

Denizens of the compost eat dead plants not live ones. Japanese Beetle grubs want live roots not dead compost. Same for June beetles. OP's grubs may be from green fruit beetle. They eat dead stuff, not live. They're reliable members of Nature's Compost Crew.

It's an army worm, that makes a moth. They actually DON'T occur in large groups, so I doubt it'll eat too much. They're pretty much generalists - you could put it on another plant and see if it'll eat that one. Sherry

That’s okay! An ID of Viburnum is good enough to let me know it’s a keeper.

It looks like it could be Viburnum dentatum, Southern Arrowhead Viburnum. They aren't any trouble. Their leaves can be skeletonized by the larvae of a certain leaf beetle, (Pyrrhalta viburni). The link gives a couple other similar Viburnum options.
