Tiny powder room design help
Comments (8)Baligirl, Did you go further with this? I have a funny thing to share.... We are doing a renovation. There was a closet 70 years ago that was converted about 50 years ago into a powder room With our renovation, we are turning it around and removing the stairs that were behind it, to make a shower stall. The architect figured there is room, as it was nearly 40" wide. Then the *bleep* contractor entered the game. What he found when he took the walls down was the studs were turned sideways. HE just HAD to fix that. Untiled, the walls are 37" Toto has a narrow sink and a matching toilet. I tuned in today to see whether I am going to have a problem...the toilet is at the end of this 36" (after tile), and the shower is at the other end (it's about 90"). The sink is opposite the door. From the wall behind the toilet to the centerline of the sing is 57.5" The toilet is 28". 29" remain. But the sink is tapered out 30" wide. 29 - 15 = 14" from the farthest edge of the sink to the centerline. Extending 20" from the center front edge of the toilet, I hit air. But 20" from the front of the toilet, following my forearm for example, would reach the sink at 18". (the sink is a 1/2 oval)....See MoreTINY powder room....need some help!
Comments (14)The other thing you might want to consider for your bathroom is some kind of tile. I write about kitchens and baths all the time, and one of the things that most interests me is the absolutely mind-blowing things that can be done with tile. Last month I posted what was probably the thirtieth or fortieth blog on this subject (thereÂs a link below). ThereÂs a company in Italy that makes tile that actually look a bit like lava flows from a volcano! But what blew my mind all the more was the elegance with which this concept was evoked. And the many things that can be done with it. Working in a space that small, you will, after youÂve installed the toilet and sink have a very small bathroom. But you knew that when you started. So, what happens next? If you simply install a "standard" toilet and vanity, you will be left with a nondescript room that is much too small. On the other hand you can use something like the Volcanic Designer Tiles I wrote aboutÂor, quite frankly, about a bazillion other tile designs that are available these daysÂto transform that dinky little room into something that is a real conversation piece. All it takes is a momentÂs boldnessÂand some slick tile! Here is a link that might be useful: Cabinet & Furniture Trends & Information...See MoreHelp with my 1930's tiny powder room
Comments (64)I agree with the suggestions to retain as many of the original fixtures as possible. I love period bathrooms (especially early 1900s) so much that I bought 2 old medicine cabinets off of eBay, very much like yours, when we were having our house built. The mirrors aren't perfect, but that just adds to the charm IMO. And as already noted, in your case it wouldn't be the primary mirror in that bathroom. For above the sink, I think an apothecary mirror would look great. For a small bathroom, one toilet paper storage option is to put extra roles on the handle of a plunger. We keep a plunger in our powder bathroom, and I painted the handle (it used to be bright yellow) the same white as our walls and use that to store extra rolls. It tucks into the corner so kind of disappears unless you're looking for it. Just an idea that might work for some....See MoreTiny, boring powder room
Comments (8)I'd: -paint a deeper, darker color to my liking..obviously the one that works with a rest od colors there or yes, wallpaper, but I personally always fall in love with something too expensive, and then I start thinking "can I afford it at all, and won't it be too much to spend on a modest place?" But if you're not like me-hopefully not, since you also sound somebody who can DIY (I'd need professional wallpaper hanger's help, which also adds money)-wallpaper can be fabulous idea of course. I love wallpaper in general. -put art. that's not too precious, but that you like a lot -add hardware. Something that speaks to you. For example I love both elaborate and simple hadware, but in certain finishes..and I love vintage too. Saves money(in cases you know where to look for it..my choice would be Etsy. or flea markets.), and adds personality, and it's literally the easiest change. -interesting-to you-containers. Don't have to look like bathroom containers. Since I've decided to just use whatever I like and can function as a container, I like my bathrooms much more. -I personally not a fan of mirror frame touching the backsplash, looks misbalanced to me..so i'd either switch the mirror if you really dislike it-or I would just leave it as is. I don't dislike it as is. On the other hand if you're wallpapering/painting-that doesn't matter much simce you'll probably want it off anyway? especially if you decide to wallpaper -I can't see your lighting but vanity lights-if you have them- is another spot when one can find smth interesting for cheap. -and lastly..it's a nice bath:) Enjoy making it to your taste!...See Moreshoozyq
