When should I hang my college flags?

I have three flags that I hang up each year to reflect the three universities that I graduated from (Montana State University, University of Washington, University of Southern California). I hung them up this weekend, but my wife is thinking that I should have waited until September 1st or so to hang them up. Guy that lives down the street from me hangs his up year around. Wondering if folks here have any thoughts?

I would hang them for a short time during football season. I've never seen neighbors hang them year round. College is fun but life moves on.

I see people hang their flags on football game days. Personally I would not want them hanging to block the light year round.

I checked out our yard a few minutes ago, and found a crocus beginning to bloom, and a columbine that is beginning to leaf out. We have a number of daffodils that are about 6 inches high, no where near blooming yet. And our lawn is greening up nicely. So it is looking like a long, slow, spring. I picked up a three year old potted blueberry, Northland variety, today, & it is sitting outside on the back steps. It will be planted tomorrow. I checked out our everbearing raspberry plants, and I could not find any sign of leafing out yet. Prairie smoke, Geum triflorum, is green, but not yet blooming. I have a package of Liatris(prairie blazing star) roots that will be set out this week. They are supposed to be dug under about 2 inches down. Earlier today, I was able to mix up some Schultz' Plant Food-acidic formula, for the blueberry shrubs, and apply this without any sign of run-off, so it seems that the ground is free of frost, finally.

How high can/should I hang my ceiling mounted rain shower head?

Dragonflygirl girl, in my experience, water pressure in the water coming out of the pipe no longer has much influence on how ”hard” the water falls in a rainhead. My thinking is that the water ”uses up” some of the kinetic energy it gained from being under pressure in the pipe in the effort to spread out in the 12” diameter rain head. I don’t think having the water in the pipe until it is closer to your head matters much for pressure. In cold weather, though, I think that it does have a noticeable influence on the temperature of the water that hits your body. I might seriously consider a longer down pipe.

I like the simplicity of this one, but it’s still lovely and interesting. I don’t know if the size would work, you’ll have to measure for that. I don’t think a candelabra type fixture would be too busy at all ... they’re a classic look with just about anything. I don’t think there is a set date as to when you fly your flags.. Around here we see college flags mostly on weekends during football season.

Pro team flags during their seasons.

American flags are flown year round

I have several garden flags hanging year round. The American flag ( I am a proud American), the US Air Force flag ( I am a retired US Air Force Captain), the West Point flag (my grandson graduated from West Point and was recently promoted to 1st Lieutenant), and a Blue Star Family Service flag as I have 2 grandchildren in the military❣️

Here in New England I rarely see any college flags hanging and I live in a college town. Not sure why you want to hang them outside to me yours are banners for a den. Congratulations on all those degrees

When? And Why?

If you must hang them at all, hang them only on a day of significance to the school.

I have never heard or seen anyone hang college banners outside their home at all - let alone all year? For what purpose?

The banners look ugly and make it look like an aging frat person lives there and they seem to also block the view and light from the window - like having partial curtains flapping all the time.

I have multiple degrees and two admissions to professional certification licenses but I don't even hang them in my home. At one time I hung them in my actual office at work didn't do that after a few years in the work force.

agreed with Helen. I also have multiple degrees, but I don't think that its a good idea to put banners, flags and stuff so everyone can see that you have those degrees. We also need to stay humble! Moreover, it wasnt that hard to get the degree using https://phdessay.com/free-essays-on/ambition-in-macbeth/ and getting essays for my homework.. so I wouldn't hang those flags.. maybe just a couple of days and take them off

Helen is grumpy and self conscious. Don't be Helen.

If I had college flags I would probably hang them on game days or at the start of college season. My husband follows the Philadelphia Eagles so if we had that flag we would probably do it on game day or the season.

Maybe fly them during graduation season, too.

Have fun. Life's too short to be a Helen.
