Blooming on Friday

The hot weather has departed for a while. I got a little hybridizing done this morning. The seedlings are all tucked in the seedling bed. We managed to squeeze about 2400 in this bed.

Deadliest Catch is blooming now.

Delinquent Doll is another late bloomer that just started.

Explosion in the Paint Factory has very few buds this year.

Much Ado About Magic is a wonderful large flat bloom on a scape about 12 inches high.

Raggedy Man is one of our favorite late bloomers.

Saber Tooth Tiger is a great grower.

Something in My Teeth has finally decided it will grow for us. I thought we had lost it.

I really like the color on this seedling. It is Love All Serve All X (Mary Lena X Crimson Stories).

I really like the edge on this one. It is Phillies Starter X Bullfrog Kisses. Bullfrog Kisses didn't like our garden so I hope this one takes after Phillies Starter.

Bob and I started working with small diploids, especially uf diploid. This is Little Donny Darko X (Fulva cypriana X Unknown). I like the color and the twisty sepals on this one.

Your lates are really nice, I especially like much ado About Magic and Something in my teeth. I like the color on your 1st seedling, and I like the twisty look on the 3rd one.

Jean - I know you love the round ones, so GBG would be your kind of daylily. Dean and Celeste - I planted BILL NORRIS several years ago in a drought, and it's never really impressed me before. But the clump is so large and the scapes so tall this time, I think it will have plenty of stage presence next to my little red barn. Kay - You are so sweet to pick the seedling as your favorite, and it's not even looking as white as last year. Dust Be Diamonds X Tuxedo Junction was a good cross for me. It gave me one extra early near white and one that keeps blooming very late in the season. The third near white sib blooms in the middle, but it has a much smaller bloom and doesn't want to multiply. Thank you Debra.I love this Torenia plantI use to have one years ago,and forgot to bring it in the first winter I had it and thought it had died, but, in the spring I found a bunch of little plants coming up and gowing, but,I finally had lost all of it,so I was very happy when I found a plant at our local nursery that only opens up a few months each spring.its a member of the African violet group, but,it tolerates a little sun very good.Thanks for your comments on the daylilies. MANTIS: yes the TORENIA plant tolerates heat very well, just not a lot of hot sun, but it does like a little sunshine.Have to be careful with the watering and not over water it.Thats how I have killed several of them, over watering.let it dry out before watering again.and yes,it does like a little early morning sunshine or late evening.just not in the hottest part of the day,it needs in the shade, then. This little kitty can be just a barrel of laughs..Every morning when it hears my front door unlock and open, it just comes from out of no where, just jumping up and down like a bucking horse, and it sits there waiting for its food it knows I am bringing. it sits there looking up at me,and moving b ackwards each step I make.It wants to be first to get its head in the bowl to eat, as the mother is always waiting by the step each morning, too.Shes wild and wont let me get too close to her, but, shes very pretty grey tabby. jean

Debra, Mister Mayor had 4 fans, 4 original scapes and 2 reblooms, one was instant. Final Frontier is my latest bloomer, way later than anything else I have. Scapes started showing up last weekend, so will be a bit before it blooms. It is tall, large flowers, a very brawny plant. Foliage looks almost like yucca. I have thought about getting Last Chance for Romance. If it blooms the same time as Final Frontier, I definitely need it. FF looks so Lonesome in August. Thanks Brad. Soli is a favorite. It has 2 scapes with 18 and 21 buds. It has been blooming over a month. Is this what is meant by extended bloom? When they don't rush to bloom out in 2 or 3 weeks.

Wow, now that is a large seedling bed. Can't imagine trying to plant all of that in hot weather.

I like large flat blooms and Much Ado About Magic looks good. Too bad it came up on a short scape for such a lovely bloom. First year?

That's a lot of seedlings you and Bob have planted! It will be exciting to see all those bloom in future years. Much Ado About Magic is so pretty - I hope it will have a better plant habit in the future. Raggedy Man is a neat late. I like the first two seedlings a lot! I like the colors and edges on both.

I really like your dmall diploid seedling (the last photo). I like the ruffling edge and twisting. I was also drawn to your Phillies Starter seedling, love that big red edge .

So m uch work in that seedling bed…..I cant imagine keeping track of all of the parentage on them. i sure hope you end up with some beauties!

Just wow on the planting of those seedlings! That truly defines a labor od love!!

I agree with others on Much Ado About Magic. I really like that large flat bloom. Raggedy Man looks very bright. Those first two seedlings have great color.

What a great picture of Explosion in a Paint Factory.......... I like the blended colors on Something in My Teeth. I'd like to see it again next year - if it's willing.....Both of the top two seedlings are looking very pretty, and Delinquent Doll is a pink I'd not heard of before.................Maryl.

Wow! So many seedlings! Much Ado About Magic is so pretty! I am sorry that EITPF didn't do well this year. Mine did great, but my computer died and I haven't posted in a while, and may not post anymore. The computer came early and that was was happy making!. I really like the first two seedlings too.
