Stacked Cabinets 36 + 12 - pictures?
Comments (11)I whole-heartedly agree with not doing anything that's 12". If you really care about function (and not just form, that is) you're far better off to do 30 + 18. I like the look of hope's cabinets because they're not glass in this case. They don't interrupt my eye with a tiny cabinet border. To me, it's all glass up there or nothing! I have 8' ceilings (and given the sag, some lower where I have to cut the ceiling out to accommodate my cabinets. (re: shoe horn comment) Anyway, I'm going 30+12 simply because that's all my ceiling will allow. I have absolutely no plan to try to wedge anything into those dumb, 12" cabinets. But I like the stacked cabinet look. I believe 18" is standard between counter top and cabinets, though, not 15"....See MoreOpinions stacked 30' & 15' or single 42' cabinets
Comments (4)Do you need the storage space? If so, sounds like you'd get a lot more cabinet space with 15" over 30", which could be a reason to go that direction...I like the stacked look a lot, especially when one set of doors is glass, and especially with 9' ceilings it works really well. (We also have 9' ceilings and would do it if it didn't add so much cost for ours!) I'll try attaching a link to a photo I really like---not sure on their sizes, but I think it's 18" over 30". Comments (32)Fishies - here are a couple more pictures This is the bank of 42 with 21s at the top - you could easily make the 42s look like a pair of 21s by the trim. 21 inch top drawers - these I like - knives on the left and silverware on the right - wouldn't want to open a big drawer for either of these items.... The 42s - Middle drawer has dinnerware - probably pushing the weight limit... I do have a few pegs to remind me where items belong vs keeping them from moving around... Bottom drawer - mostly containers - no more avalanches!!!! This one has dividers and still deciding best placement This is the bank of 45 with a 15/30 split. 42 was the max in the line, so needed to split it up... It works fine - still tweeking a few things - and right now, I have an extra slot!!! Wonder what trinket I can snag!!! - Just snagged the Kitchen Aid mixer on Craigslist and planning to make some lemon cookies after finishing this post. Here are the 15 and 30s middle and lower Middle 15 is a wrap drawer - was supposed to be in a different location but turns out the cooktop couldn't support a drawer, so needed to re-configure a few items. Bottom 15 drawer has my mixing bowls and hand mixer. The middle 20 drawer has a lot of my baking dishes and the bottom 30 drawer has my cake pans, parchment paper, and silicon silpat type things. Hope this is helpful :-) I can't wait to see your kitchen - I know it will be stunning and beautiful - mine will be functional but won't have your pizazz!...See Morecabinet height - 36' or 42' or staggered
Comments (9)Storage space issue: 36" cabs have 86% of the storage (in cubic feet) that's in a 42" cabinet, but that's deceiving. If you can put 3 levels of storage in the 42" and only 2 levels in the 36", the 36" is only 67% of the 42" in usable shelf space. However, if you can fit 2 shelves in the 36" cabinets, as I suspect you probably can in most cases, you won't really have any less shelf space by using the shorter ones. This is a difference of having your shelves at 11" apart or 13" apart. So it probably depends on what you have to store and how tall things are. My sister went ahead with 36" cabs to save money...Unfortunately, they're not installed yet, so no photos to share. I know they'll function better for her, and probably look better than the 30" she has now. My cabinets will eventually have upper trim to fill the space and finish the look, but they are currently 6 inches from the ceiling. I would have thought that would be odd...Too close to use as a shelf, but not up to the ceiling...But I actually think, if they were finished at that height, they'd look OK. So here are photos of them, even though they're 48" instead of 36" because we have 9 ft ceilings....See Morelucky998877
