Comments (7)I took a few of the same shingles the house was sided with over to the paint shop to have a few samples done. Sikkens RDC is what they were recommending although again being oil based it made the shingle samples look darker. The natural seemed to be the closest to what I am looking for but not really what I truly want. Other than the fact that water base finishes don't last as long or protect as well, are there other inherent problems with using one of the hybrids as suggested. Another paint shop was pushing Olympic Maximum clear (hybrid) and it appeared to be closer in color when put on as a sample. Faron, I'm not sure what back primed means, but if it means sealed both sides and all edges before installation, the answer is definitely no. And to help answer your question, I"m looking to see as much grain and as much of the original color as possible. I've heard a bit about the Log and Siding but was concerned about it producing a look which was much different to what I have now. Any thoughts? Thanks to both of you for the help. Comments (4)Jan, TWP would be a good choice. TWP is also a penetrating sealer. I could have picked either company and became a distributor, I chose the Bakers because it is TWP\\\'s basic formulation (200 series) then Tom Baker and company adds their pigmentation. I think the colors are more even and prettier than the TWP formulations. Most customers of mine are blown away by the appearance of the Bakers. It enhances the natural wood grain. It does not cover it in any way. As it sits on the wood for a week or so it dives down creating an even more rich tone. The only caveat with TWP, Bakers and these types of oils is that they require two coats. The two coats can be done at the same time and usually you can by with just one coat on the rails. Hope this helps. PS: The more pigmentation the better the protection from sun damage. But in a scenario where the sun is shielded by a roof, you can cut a product like Bakers with the clear so you have a more natural appearance....See MoreWhat finishes should I use in a 3-season rm on rough cedar plank wall?
Comments (6)Beverly, would painting the cedar a soft cream matching the wall color be a better option? Then, perhaps sticking with the wood-look flooring? The cedar is throwing me for a loop!...See MoreWhat flooring looks best with cedar plank walls?
Comments (5)Personally I do not care for LVT or LVP--they are marketing terms for plastic flooring. There's nothing "luxury" about them, and they work best in a basement or utility room. I'd do hardwood with an area rug in front of the fireplace. Finish it with a medium neutral brown stain. It will last forever and is a classic look....See MoreHj
