Good to know! I almost gave it a buzz cut this morning!!! It looks so good in our bathroom (almost like a spider plant) but as I see the little pitchers growing, I wondered if the stems were not wasting the plant's energy to grow more. I often see pictures of pitcher plants with very few stem (only stems are the ones with pitchers attached) so I thought maybe this was the secret. I was ready to cut 3 off which would have broken the spell of the room. If it doesn't bother my plant I will let it be! :) Can you tell me which fertilizer you use? You mentioned a fertilizer with bat guano? You have a Source? A link? I don't trust the ones in store here (limited options).

Now my plumie is getting worse. So it has been raining a lot here in denver colorado and I put my girl in a brand new pot with some fresh organic soil mixed with perlite and a bit of sand with pea gravel on top. I have been trying to leave her outside for sun light but with all the rain I have just decide to bring her back inside. Her tips have gotten worse with the black showing on both branches. Please If I am to cut it. Can someone help me where do I start cutting. Do I separate the two branches and make two more plants or do I just cut off the black because everything else beside the tips the plant seems health

These are very easy plants to care for, once you have a good understanding of their basic needs. They will even tolerate quite a bit of neglect. (Mine most certainly do, lol...) What they don't tolerate is the chlorine and/or fluoride that is in most tap water. As for using melted bagged ice, that will have no affect on the fluoride in the water. Neither boiling or freezing fluoridated water will do nothing to rid the water of fluoride. Which is why I just avoid using tap water on my spider plants altogether. Do that, and your spider plant will pretty much tolerate just about anything else. I've recently pruned off all of the offshoots from my Hawaiian spiders. So they can focus more on growing bigger, rather than branching out and growing so many little plantlets. Plus, the old branches were looking kind of ragged. It was long overdue for a "haircut" to help freshen them up a bit. Not to mention, the pots themselves were getting quite heavy. When I got finished, the pile of the little offshoots took up more space than the original mother plants, HaHa.

ZZs grow two types of stalks. The ones that are typically at least the width of a pencil and they come out of the soil with the leaves tightly bound around them. Then they also grow these very small stalks that typically only have about 3 leaves on them. This is completely normal. The small stalks don't live too long. It has been hypothesized that these small stalks are produced to provide energy to the rhizome so it can generate the larger normal stalks. I usually let the small ones live and die on their own. Once they turn brown and crispy, I will cut them off where the stalk looks dead so I'm not cutting into green flesh. I hope this helps!
