Paint Design Dilemma Kitchens

V Confused, what paint should I use for the kitchen cabinets and walls

I'm at a loss for ideas, we recently bought this house and quickly realized how outdated the kitchen is. It does have a homey Italian villa look to it, but I want to give it a more brighter and modern look by using light neutral colors- without changing the granite counter top and backsplash. Any ideas on what paint I should use for the cabinets and walls to neutralize the reddish pinking hues of this kitchen? Specific paint colors would be appreciated! See pics bc it is hard to figure out what color the granite is, I'm hoping to stay away from dark terra cotta hues as I want to brighten up the kitchen.

That backsplash will never be modern no matter what color you paint the caibnets and BTW DIY paint jobs rarely look good . I think waiting for at least 3-6 months before doing anything in thta kitchen would be a good idea. You might find the space really does not function as it is and IMO I see lower regular cabinets not drawers which tells me the cabinets are a dated idea and having them painted will cost at least as much as new . So wait. In the meantime change all the lighting to LED 4000K. Is that floor all over the house or just in the kitchen? IMO that and the backsplash are going to always drive the bus so unless you love them think about what you want. I like the granite BTW

I would change the backsplash and the wall color.

I was looking at this link to paint colors earlier today. Though its title suggests they're shades of gray, most are soft blues and greens. Maybe one of them would give you the color you want without being too dark. Other pale blues I've noticed recently are Sherwin William's Rainwashed and Benjamin Moore's Beach Glass. By googling paint names you can sometimes find photos of rooms painted in those colors, which I've found helpful. Here is a link that might be useful: some soft blues, greens and grays

Thank you very much, Chris. Would Benjamin Moore Advance satin finish be fine? I checked BM's website, and saw they only have primer, satin, and high-gloss in advance series. What kind of roller would you suggest? Really appreciate your help.

bbstx, thank you so much for the tips. I have some other remodeling to be done by contractors. These days, I have been busy buying lights and materials for bathroom remodeling. Sorry for my late response. For the kitchen cabinets, I will paint them myself. screedesq, thank you very much for sharing your experience, which is very helpful. I'll use the Benjamin Moore Advance Simply White Semi Gloss. For the primer, I'll use Sherwin Williams PrepRiteProBlock latex primer. The sales lady recommended SW premium wall wood primer. But according to bbstx's referred post, the former should be better. I have the external hinge of bronze color. Did you have the same? Did you change them to stainless steel? I don't know if it would be a good idea to change them to internal hinge and if it would be an easy job. Did it take you a lot of time to degloss and sand the cabinets? Did you use a rotary orbital sander to do the job? The contractor who is going to remodel my house suggested Rust-Oleum Transformations. I doubt it would produce the same good result as SW preprite problock latex primer + BM advance? Really appreciate your help.

Either leave them as they are, or use the White Dove color. If you try to paint them gray, they won't work with your floors, back splash, or wall color. White Dove will work without having to change anything else. Are you also planning to paint your window trim? You might consider just painting the uppers in White Dove if you're trying to lighten the space.

If you have ever lived with after market panted cabinets realize that they often look tacky especially when they start chipping. Your cabinets are fine as is, I would change the dated backsplash and paint the walls, and eventually change the floors.

It is quite pink isn't it?! If you just wanted to tide yourself over and tone things down while you decide how best to spend your money I may suggest you paint your walls Benjamin Moore Maritime White (it's a white that will probably work with all that pinky stone) in eggshell or matte and paint the backsplash the same color in high gloss (clean it really well first)! Another option may be Brandy Cream if the Maritime doesn't look right. Congrats on the new house!

Thank you for all the comments! I didn't think of changing the backsplash so that was a helpful suggestion- I'm planning on painting or whitewashing the ceramic backsplash, its adding a lot of unnecessary pink to the kitchen, plus it does not go with the granite countertops. I'll start off with painting the walls first to see how that'll impact the room, then move on to the backsplash. I'm super tempted to paint over the cabinets but some of you have mentioned how that doesn't last well. I don't like glossy finish or the dark walnut, so I might just end up sanding and re-staining it a lighter color, but that'll be my last step. For those asking about the floor- it is Masseria Casali tile, and its only in the kitchen and washrooms. The rest of the house is half carpet half dark walnut glossy flooring (like the cabinets). Any color suggestions for the ceramic and wall in the kitchen? I need some color scheme inspirations, any helpful keywords on google/pinterest. Thank you all in advance, I can't wait to post update pics.
