Your kitchen sounds lovely. Have you posted this question on the decorating forum? I ask because they have so many great people who know color. I have a few ideas but it is hard to know the specific shade of terracotta or the stain on your maple. Instead I posted some light maple kitchens with similar counters. Judging from your picture, I think that you'll have a hard time finding a clay or taupe color that won't clash with your cabinet stain. I would consider the wood a color, which it is, and then find a color that will blend with all your components. The first color I thought about is gray...especially a blue gray, depending on your flooring. Another color that might work would be a buttery yellow.

Those are very nice looking cabinets and I would not paint them. Having your cabinets professionally painted is quite expensive. And, these cabinets seem too quality for a DIY paint job. Your counters are what really throws the color of this room off for me, but I suspect a counter replacement is not in the stars for you now. I really like the wall color with the floor and the cabinets, but again the stone is throwing it off. Maybe one of these genius pros on here could suggest a new wall color to tie the cabinets, counters, and floors together?
