Curious pickerel rush

Sorry I don't have a pic, but that's not necessary. Last year William Tricker, Inc. sent me this by mistake. I kept it anyhow and put it in my inground stock tank pond. It should have been thinned, but I didn't get to it. Anyhow........it's growing nicely, but I just noticed that all the stems that have enlarged ends (blossoms), are curved over and under the water. What's going on? The leaves are growing upwards very well, but all the blossom stems are bent over under water. Any ideas why that's happening? I have the top of the container about 3" under the water's surface.

Inside those ”blossoms” seeds are forming. You can harvest them in the late Fall or let them alone and they’ll sprout and float around your pond. I toss them when this happens as they cluster around the intake of my pump.

Thanks jrb.....I'm curious why these aren't upright and blossoming. Am I doing something wrong?

We do,indeed, catherinet....we had another pond a while back at another house and my husband wanted to get a small breed of duck for the yard. I told him he'd have to pen them up at night, care for them, etc and he jokingly started telling all our friends that I wouldn't let him have any ducks. So...I got him a whole family of ducks. ;) Pam

I got two that were bare-root. I planted them in plain garden soil, topped with sand and finally with pea gravel, stuck them in the bog area at the side of the pond, and they have since tripled in size and have had non-stop beautiful blue flower spikes all summer. I like them so much that I got a third one and potted it to the left of the waterfall. It's doing as well as the other two. Pickerel is the best performing marginal I've had so far.

I have a hardy lily. It is a redish purple bloom with green/redish leaves. It is not named. It is a producer, even in partial shade! It has a 3 foot spread. I leave it in the pond even when I have a freeze. It currently has 6 inch leaves heading for the surface of my bond. It currently lives in a 4" pot. I am interested in some pickerel rush or anything else that you have to trade.

But I think I remember in the past, having the purple flowers grow upright. And in the pictures of them on the William Tricker website, they have upright flowers.
