Plant it in a BIG container as a marginal - it grows like crazy and will stand 3-4' tall with continual blue flower spires as it grows.

I have mine planted. It has been blooming for several weeks now.

I got two that were bare-root. I planted them in plain garden soil, topped with sand and finally with pea gravel, stuck them in the bog area at the side of the pond, and they have since tripled in size and have had non-stop beautiful blue flower spikes all summer. I like them so much that I got a third one and potted it to the left of the waterfall. It's doing as well as the other two. Pickerel is the best performing marginal I've had so far.

since hearing from all of you, I have planted mine but just in gravel in one of those big black containers that other plants come in from the nursery. am i ok without soil just using the gravel? i hate putting stuff with soil in my pond as it always escapes and makes my water dirty.

Mine is in gravel only, no soil.

thanks Glenda! I got a pair of the steel birds at a garage sale for $5. And the thai buddha to the right of the pond (play where's waldo!) was garage sale too.

Is it legal in South Carolina? Everytime I look at plant sites they say, on the ones I would like to have, can not ship to SC as well as some other states. I realize some are invasive, how can you get good plants if no one can ship them to you?
