furniture layout conundrum- Help please!
We are in the process of getting our kitchen remodeled, which has involved two wall removals. We are close to finished and I am having a hard time decided how to configure the layout in our family room. It’s an L shaped room with obstacles such as French doors, a fireplace, a back stair well, and pocket doors into what will be our tv den. I do not need a tv but want to have something comfortable and inviting for parties as well as daily usage by our young family. I would love to hear your ideas! Thank you!

Comments (4)The longer the furniture (sofa) the more the piece has to be moved toward the center of the round deck in order to keep the back corner feet from slipping off. You would be better off using loveseat sized furniture. I think you should also use chairs to prevent the arrangement from looking too repetitive. Comments (2)Hi! Thank you! I was thinking having 2 sofas facing each other in front of the fireplace but don’t want to put a tv over the fireplace. I’d like one but can live without it. I can always have an L shaped configuration with sofas facing the wall to the right of the fp and place a tv on that wall with a (floating?) console. I have no idea what to do with the other half of the room. I was wondering if I could put 4 chairs with a round table in the sitting/sun room or if the proportions would be off. I’d like seating for as many as possible. I host my big family (about 30 people) for the holidays every year and I’d like everyone to be comfortable with lots of seating. It is an after dinner gathering so I don’t need to worry about where to fit them for a sit down meal. The wall between the dining room and kitchen is coming down. I plan on putting an island with seating where that wall is presently. I am making the current breakfast nook into a pantry. I am also going to put up a wall into the 2nd entrance into the kitchen so I’ll be able to put a recessed fridge in that space. I will lose the access to the closet under the stairs but could put some sore of access in the powder room bid that crazy? I so appreciate you taking the time. Comments (5)TV wall inspiration pics: Don't worry if the window is off center as the window treatment will adjust it. If you take some pic and post, it will help. The TV area can be as simple as a low shelf and wall mounted TV surrounded by art, or bookcase/storage, depending on your needs. 2 years agoMake it both family and guest friendly. Put a small bookcase with art above it where the ladder is. A chair and floor lamp by the triple window there as a reading spot. Chess or small game/puzzle working table and 2-4 chairs at the fireplace. A loveseat on the wall opposite the fireplace. Art 5" above it and 5" above the mantel. When the kids are bigger you can switch to a pool table or foosball table in this area. I would replace the barstools with some backless ones so guests can perch on them easily from any side without pulling or turning them. Looks like you may be mounting a TV by the French doors. If not, I'd add a ficus or fiddle leaf fig there. Once that's all in place I'd find a rug to anchor the fireplace area seating.
