Living room furniture layout options- please help
I am struggling with how best to layout the furniture in this living room with all the circulation paths. And I would ideally like to have a place to set things down (take off shoes, hang up coats, keys, etc) when entering from the garage, but I'm starting to think it's impossible. I've come up with two options but I'm not crazy about either of them... What do you think? Is one of these a winner or is there a better layout that I'm not considering?
This first option has the couch centered on the window which I like and there is space by the front door for a coat rack/shoe storage... Although, most people enter from the garage so this isn't ideal because you would have to walk across the space to put up shoes, coats, etc.
This second option seems to make a better use of the space but the couch is not centered on the window and I feel like it's weird to walk in the front door into the middle of the living room between the TV and couch. Also it seems like there needs to be something else at the other end of this living room as a focal point so I'm showing a fireplace, but maybe that could be coat/shoe storage..? But people don't want to see coats/shoes sitting within the living room space, right?

Comments (5)Thank you for replys. The room is big, so if you put the sofa like in Kitch4me photo ( we had it like that before, I will attach a picture), it looks massive in the middle of the room. Maybe it would work with a smaller sofa. It also seemed too far from the TV. So, I moved it closer, but then looking from other angles it looked like sofa is in the way of the door. Gracie,01, I will try to arrange it like that and take a picture. My only issue is it would be off centered. See where the hallway opening is and the master bedroom door. Turning a sofa there, sofa would be looking at the master bedroom door, not at the TV. Also, it seems far again. The room is large if the furniture is too close to the walls. Moving it towards the center of the room works better, I am just stumped on where to put the TV. Comments (2)CT, I'm Preksha from Styldod and here are a couple of layout options you could try for your living room. It would be best to buy a 3 seater and a couple of chairs for seating. A slim media console or a wall mounted TV can be placed by the entrance door. You could place a couple of chairs that could be moved around and a tall bookcase in the corner. The couch would then go to the wall opposite the TV. You also have the option to put the TV between the two doors and split the seating across the opposite wall. This would mean that you would enter right into the living room, but is the best use of available space. I would also recommend some tall storage units and a nice rug that will help ground the space. Comments (14)Here is my concept. I am making an assumption that there is a walkway on left so you loose 3’ from seating space. I numbered items in order of importance so you can purchase as budget allows. Sofa, 2 chairs facing sofa and coffee table. You can add other chairs as needed. I think a 9 x 12’ rug will anchor the room. A narrow, long coffee table serves main seating area. A large plant in corner to right of fireplace would soften space. Do plain fabrics and leathers and use rug and pillows and art over fireplace to add colors desired. I would find a way to add an arc lamp probably next to chairs over toward coffee table. You will have plenty of light during the day but at night will need ambient lighting. Can lights are not good best lighting on skin. So see if this reflects your desires. Comments (1)In a space this large I would do 2 seting areas. But you need to provide a bit more info. Do you need a TV here ? how many seats on a regular basis are nessessary? My space in these pics is 15 x25 but as you see we have a huge FP but it might give you some idea of arranging furniture You could certainly use the wall where we have the FP for a TV, storage display idea....See More

3 years agoThe key to this space is properly scaled furniture. Here is my layout and a mood board for furnishings. The white piece is IKEA shoe storage cabinet $99. This serves as drop zone behind sofa.
The mixed wood cabinets serve for TV and storage piece opposite TV. A pair of small scale chairs and a couple small drink tables plus lamps completes this room. Sofa with exposed legs keeps things open and airy in small spaces. Enjoy!

3 years agolast modified: 3 years ago@Flo Mangan, I was hoping to seat at least 5. What about something like this? I flipped the door swing and switched the chairs/sofa like @calidesign suggested. I really like the idea of keeping it open between the living room/kitchen. Do the chairs have to be centered on the window? Does this create enough separation so it doesn't feel like the shoes/coats are "in" the living room space?

3 years agoIf you need more seating, you may be able to use a sectional without a back on the side portion, so your views are still open from the kitchen, similar to this:
