We took a week of vacation - rented a boat and followed our Dutch landlords around many canals and through complicated locks. They lived on their boat all summer.

Since we're on the subject of clouds, this is a photo from a bay beach near us with a storm coming in...The blue boxes in the marsh grass are greenhead fly traps. Nasty biting insects that draw blood in July.

This time a pedestrian bridge.......I almost saved this for Monday's "Z" posting, as this is the Zubizuri bridge in Bilbao

When travel become a thing again, I urge you to go to Bilbao - I was only there about 24 hours, but I wish I'd been able to spend more time there. I went to see the Guggenheim on a train from Barcelona, and I didn't realize that I'd want to see more (stupid me). I should have spent another day there at least. Apparently, "zubizuri" is Basque for "white bridge".

I don't think any even medium sized city of renown in Europe can be seen in less than two days and usually more is needed. Depending, or course, on what one's interests are. To know and experience a new place, it's not just going to the better known sights but also wandering around, seeing the people, sampling the local food, and the rest. Bilbao is special as one of the larger (largest?) cities in Spain's Basque area.

I enjoyed seeing the unique inside and outside architecture and layout of the Bilbao Guggenheim much more than any of the art I saw inside. I was also a bit disappointed that it's a pretty small museum. Personal taste is involved and we're all different. There's much more in Bilbao than just this museum.

I had much the same thought --- the facility was nicer than their collection, at least at the time I was there. I've been to other galleries like that (personal opinion, of course), like the Picasso Museum in Barcelona. Then again, Barcelona wasn't at all what I was expecting in many ways. But that's a topic for another thread.

If you like Picasso and haven't been to the Picasso Museum in Paris, put it on your list. It's very well worth visiting.
