String of buttons propagation
Comments (4)I don't think you need to let them dry or any other special care. Just shove them in some soil & pat dirt down around 'em for contact to the stem! I was out weeding a succulent area (grass & Nemesia got evicted) today & pulled off lots of those Crassula that were hiding below. Just kept sticking them in any nearby pot. =)...See MoreWhat is this on my Ceropegia woodii (String of Hearts)?
Comments (4)Yes, that's correct it's a tuber. I grow these currently myself & tho' mine is in bloom now, it doesn't have any visible tubers to show you. I've propagated this plant both ways, placing the tuber on the mix & pinning down its surrounding stems, sometimes w/ a light sprinkling of dry mix over the tuber. Have also planted cuttings w/ several nodes, placing at least one node under the mix & that works too. My leaves are different than yours as mine is a variation, but definitely C woodii. Here's its bizarre bloom. Here's its best other-worldly shot. Sometimes I just wind the hanging vines around the top of the pot, sort of just piling it on itself for a full & lush look. Otherwise it seems pretty carefree, enjoy....See MorePropagating: String of Bananas & Chain Plant?
Comments (1)I do not have 'strings of bananas' but would try stem cuttings and/on layering. Nothing could be easier to propagate than C. lycopodioides (muscosa) = common name watch chain succulent. Take any piece and stick in the mix...I have given away more than 10 pots and still have 4 or 5 (?)...they grow anywhere piece falls. Look best very compact - grown in full sun and not too wet. Personally, I do not think propagating succulents in the water is good, but some ppl do......See MoreString of hearts vs string of spades
Comments (29)@HU-588717573 this is really interesting to see, thanks for sharing! If you're based in New Zealand, I may be able to offer a cutting, but I don't know about sending plants overseas, I imagine there could be strict import/biosecurity restrictions etc. That is really interesting to hear about the pollination with Woodii. If that is true, then it only raises more questions about how Spades came to be, but could make sense as the flower really is very different to Woodii. Both the Spades leaf and flower feel quite similar to my Rendallii:...See MoreKris May
