Porch Moisture Concerns
Comments (5)Hello RumRunner, You are wise to consider moisture before constructing your deck. Standard decking and T&G will react the same to moisture. T&G is a beautiful option in a covered porch. Your slope and ventilation will be fine. Be sure soil under deck is packed smooth without large ruts. Cover with plastic with large rocks on top to secure it. I read this on a BWDepot.com blog, used it several times and have only happy customers. Congratulations on your new deck....See Morequestion/concerns on laying hickory wood flooring on cement
Comments (17)Rigid floors (engineered hardwood, solid hardwood, laminate, tile, stone, etc) all have the same FLATNESS requirements. So to answer to Mindy's question, "...would’ve been less expensive to have gotten the pre fab real wood rather what we have?" = NOPE! Not one little bit less expensive. Sigh. Carpet is the only floor that does NOT require "prep" like they type we are talking about. Even vinyl planks NEED the subfloor prep. Flat and level is still flat and level no matter how you ask the question. The slab is the slab. It was poured by the concrete guys KNOWING that a PROFESSIONAL will "deal with it" some time LATER. If you had contracted the concrete guys to apply a technique to get the concrete READY for flooring (because you wanted to skip the other "professional" at the "later" date) that had to be specified before the darn thing was poured). And this specification is an added expense at the BEGINNING of the build....which is something most homeowners avoid....which is why this option is RARELY used. It is a big expense (on paper). What the homeowner is NOT told is this expense WILL COME UP at a "later" date because another set of "professionals" will be used (see where I'm going with this?). Now you have a regular ol' slab that needs work. Normal. Normal. Normal. Good. Time to get the work done. It is simply where you are in the building process. Bring in the excellent NWFA Certified Hardwood Flooring Installers and let them do their work. Please specify in your contract that all subfloor preparation is to be done to Manufacturer's Requirements - no exceptions. Please pay them what they are worth....they will ensure you do NOT have failures due to improper use of adhesive, trowel, spread rate, wrong adhesive, etc. This install is possible. You just have to pay the piper....See MoreBathroom Flooring Concerns
Comments (1)Use large format PORCELAIN. Do not use a glossy tile. Use rectified porcelain for small grout lines. Hire a very good tile person. Do not use real marble, unless you like etching and permanent stains. Your kids will get pee on the floor and spill beauty products and permanently etch/stain any marble....See MoreMoisture problems on wood floors. Tear out and try again?
