Hello, after days of snow...I am getting back to my pc. Thanks so much for your wonderful suggestions. Here few answers: 1) the shade are 39" and the window is 42.5 (including the trim). Basically there is no space to put your head to see the gap.There are about 2 inches from the last right window to the wall and from the first left window to the wall So may question is ...does it really look bad a over the trim mount? lyban, I don't care for my own roller mechanism shade because I didn't want to "tie down" the cord onto my window trim, so it hangs loose (I don't have small children). Also, it is much slower to pull up and down. I really like the cord locks as they are faster to go up and down. I don't use a cleat but put the cord inside the folds when up, and they are cut as short as possible so when the shade is down the cord is not very noticeable. I sell roman shades and this is always a discussion to the customer. A roller mechanism is nice if the shade is heavy, too. You might look at where the hold down will be placed if you get it.

We haven't installed the hood yet, but I have worked on the plan. I am thinking of a 22" deep hood built out from the wall by 7", for a total depth of 29". I did some geometry to arrive at a good combination of 1. non head banging 2. good smoke capture. The above would be a non-standard installation height however I think it would work best in our case. This is discussed in painful detail in my thread below. Something to be aware of is that the higher the hood is mounted, the louder it will sound. You could see how this works by lowering your head beside an operating hood. Totally helpful comment<---- sarcasm. Obviously the OP's isn't, hence the reason for posting. In principle, knowing that they are only off by less than 5 inches from the standard dimensions could be helpful. That's likely just about the amount that a creative contractor could shave off. Open the walls, turn the studs by 90°, use thinner sheetrock, and maybe just push the wall over a tiny amount, and you are there. Then maybe fill the walls with spray foam to give them back some of the rigidity that they lost in the process. In practice, this is going to be prohibitively expensive unless the room was intended to have a full remodel anyway. So, yeah, you are right. That's not super helpful. And that's why I originally suggested looking into getting Miele washers/dryers. The higher purchase price is easily made up for by the cost savings of not having to completely gut the laundry room and remodeling it. Sounds as if there are a few other more compact alternatives, though. Good to know.
