Blooming today on the hottest day of the season (so far)

We have so many seedlings blooming that I didn't get photos of many of the named varieties. Here are a couple.

Catching Fire's first bloom this season was abnormally small.

Curious Cutie doesn't like the heat so I had to get the picture the first thing this morning.

This offspring of Stella de Oro has a reputation of being quite the bloomer. I hope that is the case.

This is Whatchamacallit.

There were lots of nice seedlings today so per Debra's suggestion, I will name the royal court.

I cross Wolverine (whose color I am not fond of) with Spacecoast Velvet Valentine and got this tropical looking flower.

This one belongs to our daughter. She bought some seeds from John Kulpa a couple of years ago. This one is Gloria Kulpa X Unknown.

This big bold flower on a tall scape is Bodacious Bite X Jewel of Jewels. Jewel of Jewels is a southern and probably a bit tender. The hope is that by crossing it with Bodacious Bite, we could get something hardy.

We like the eye on Geometric Wizard X Smoke Shadows.

This one has a different look from what you usually see from me. It is Heavenly Dark Knight X (Back Draft X Tet. Rose Kennedy or Heman).

This third year blooming seedling has a good scape so it was selected to be moved to an observation bed. It is Stellar Stitchery X Cherry Pie a la Mode.

This is Luscious Kiss X Stella's Ruffled Fingers. I wanted one that blooms as much as Stella's RF but with a different color. The color is there so now we will have to see about the blooming. It's just its first flower ever.

We really liked this one this morning. It is Curious Cutie X Purple Maze.

The first two named daylilies are very nice. My hands down favorite seedling is Geometric Wizard x Smoke Shadows. I like the petal color, the pattern and the gold on the edge. Both of the red eyed seedlings are captivating, and the Heavenly Dark Knight baby has lovely red coloring.

No real surprises from my roses, perhaps because I didn't form any expectations about them. They've been giving me plenty of pleasure, though. The early species and hybrids have been flowering; now the Teas and those Chinas not yet in bloom are about to get going. Like elemire, we've been having a cold wet spring. Well, I did see a flower for the first time on a Mediterranean peony that I bought some years ago as a root and planted in truly terrible ground. The flower was large, single, lilac pink with a striking boss of stamens, and startlingly beautiful. The next day when I came to look at it again, it had already shed its petals. It was worth it. Next year I can look forward to it flowering again. Also I was surprised about how some of my snow crocuses and miniature irises wandered around the garden, ditto for some common sage that seeded far from any parent plant. And I just noticed today a striking iris (tall bearded) that I never saw before; if I remember correctly the color is a strange brownish purple, quite showy. My Quadra is now in its 4th year, To tell you the truth, its a excellent large bush/climber in the north, with excellent form, vigor, no desease ect. However, I wouldnt ever grow it If I lived in the south, Its here becuase I only have so many options in large climbers, I envy all of you who can grow the noisettes, chinas and teas. The three large reds that you can grow in my climate are Ramblin Red, Quadra and Henry Kelsey, out of those, Quadra's form is superiour IMO, so hence I grow it. Both of the Quadras are near seven feet, one threw out a cane that hit 8 feet or so, but I cut it down a little to match. They really wont get all that much higher probably. Its a fairly large arch, 8 feet tall or so, so a foot in the ground and 7 feet up, I did that on purpose, as Im over 6 feet tall and I hate the little arches. Silverkelt

Your photo's are beautiful. I am especially jeolous of your Huldine. I have read so many posts raving about this clematis and have had no luck with it. I bought one 4 years ago and the first year it produced tons of foliage and no flowers. The second year it produced less foliage and no flowers. The third year it died. I am trying it one more time. Last year I planted it and this year it is producing lots of foliage again. There is not one single flower bud on it. I am fertilizing the same as all my other clematis and it is growing in a west exposure. I am going to give it one more year and then try something else. I don't know why I can't get this one to bloom. Karen

Mantis, that's a shame, since it really does well here. It's a beautiful bloom. Maryland Linda Colorado Moonfire is an excellent plant, and if the Spacecoast plants do well there, I think you would be happy with Eye for Passion. they all seem to do well here. Linda, I am getting too old to add more space to care for. I am planting a few more perennials in hope they won't require quite as much effort. kay

I like the bold look on the Bodacious Bite seedling. And if it is a large flower, even better! The Curious Cutie seedling is also nice. Well, actually they all are! Looking at the seedlings every day must be fun! It is hot and humid here-heat index is 105. All our rain has made it very steamy!

Lots of nice seedlings, I am torn between the Bodacious Bite seedling and Geometric Wizard. But I like the Curious Cutie also.
