Heat Pump Works but Fan Won't Shut Off
Comments (3)It's probibly either colder than the pump is desighned to operate in or the pump hasn't been able to recover from a frost up. Switch to aux/emerg heat and see it that helps. If not, call your service man. If yes, leave it on aux until sun defrosts coil then switch back to normal heat. Technicaly,it shouldn't do that but many do it anyhow. If it becomes a presistant problem, stay on emergence heat until this ice spell is passed and hvac contractors catch up....See MoreReasons why condenser sometimes stops, won't cool?
Comments (9)Does the outdoor unit's compressor and fan both quit at the exact same time. If so, you can probably rule out capacitors because there's usually a seperate one for the units compressor and fan. I would focus on the contactor or the pressure switches. If the comdenser's pressure is too high or too low the pressure switches will shut the unit off for protection. Maybe you have a very low or very high refrigerant charge. When the unit shuts off are you still getting the low voltage contactor relay signal? (usually Yellow) That would pretty much rule out the thermostat or air handler. If it's one year old then it should still be under warrantee. Get the company back out there to make it right....See MoreMaytag LDE510 shuts off when hot
Comments (2)When you say "shut off", do you mean everything stops? Do lights go dead? Is there a hum? Are the controls totally inert? All the visible thermal switches effect the heat, not the motor. I may have the model wrong and so be wrong about this. If everything is stopping dead, I see several things to check. 1 - clogged airways, especially in the external duct(s), but really everywhere from the lint filter to the outside vent cover. 2 - low voltage overall or a bad connection on one leg of the power supply, either at the breaker, the outlet, the line cord, or one of the cheap little push on terminals inside. Measure it at all those points but at the very least measure voltage at the motor under load. 3 - open MOTOR thermal switch, probably hidden. Immediately when the motor dies, measure for voltage at the motor terminals. if you have voltage but no motor action, there's a problem found. This is often related to low voltage, a defective motor, or just being old and tired. 4 - bad controls....See MoreAc wont shut off when thermostat reaches shut off temp.
Comments (23)Anything is possible Crystal so yes t-stats often go bad same as other components. You are asking us to solve things that someone couldn't solve while laying hands on it. Adding to the near impossible task, you aren't giving much information for us to go on. Statments like "My ac never froze up" and "copper pipes outside are cold and wet like they should be"are misleading at best, outright inaccurate at worst. I don't have time to win debates and aurguments in order to answer questions for you. Get a different tech to look at it....See MoreRichard Romanowski
