Need help! Want craftsman look on my ranch
Comments (9)dainaadelle - We do have a porch 7'x 8' and considered putting columns on it. I decided against it because I didn't want anything blocking my view from the garden window over my kitchen sink. As far as color, I'm still in a quandary. My contractor is encouraging me to stay with lighter colors. The designer I consulted suggested mountain sage green and timberbark or woodstock brown. http://www.jameshardiesidingcenter.com/p_colorplus.shtml I would like to stay in the colorplus options because the color is baked in and is guaranteed for 15 years. However, I have done quite a bit of research and it sounds like the darker colors fade more than the light. jakabedy - I will look for this at the library. I couldn't find many good images of the Clif May houses. The different finishes are an issue. The house has a stone front but the stone is not used anywhere else. I think it would have been much more cohesive if there had been stone used on the porch and/or the garage side. Having said that, I can't find anything to match and was planning to leave the stone alone. Whatever accent color is used, I will also put on the garage side. Now the only accent is the red shutters on the right gable. stacyneil - yes, I plan to extend the overhang on the gables. Not sure how much space is under the existing wood but I am hoping to do that. gsciencechick - Thanks for the lead. I'll look for that!...See MoreNeed help - Painting my brick house
Comments (66)I think it will look beautiful in a creamy white. I’d do charcoal (BM Charcoal Slate or FB Downpipe) garage doors u less you can replace and then 100% they should be a warm medium wood. I’d replace that section of diff materials in The garage gable with natural shakes and replace All the ornamental stuff with beams. Then do your landscaping like an English garden. It will be so gorgeous....See MoreHelp me update my hardscape/landscaping for my ranch-styled hom
Comments (5)In my professional opinion as a landscape designer, I think you would be best served by hiring a local professional to help you develop a landscape/hardscape plan that will maximize your garden usage while complimenting your home. As it is now, your request is so open-ended as to be difficult to resolve or even address well by any remote input. And because California has some very specific, ongoing issues that dictate how landscaping should be approached - ongoing drought and fireproof gardening - a local professional is better able to address those issues. The first step would be to eliminate as much water hungry lawn area as possible through a combination of hardscaping and drought tolerant plantings. For that, you need onsite, hands-on attention and help :-) And just a word to the wise - a ranch style home is NOT the same as a mid-century modern style and it would take some serious renovations and a lot of $$ to convert a standard ranch to MCM!!...See MoreLooking for paint guidance - ranch mid-century home in CA
Comments (20)I think I might try 100% as kandrewspa asked. We had our exterior painted last year, and it was pretty amazing how our siding color lightened up. Also, as kandrewspa suggested, we had the painters do large swatches on all sides. We’re also in CA and have a ranch home, although ours is more Cinderella ranch than MCM. I see Revere Pewter has an LRV of 55. The Repose Gray we used (from Sherwin Wms.) is 58 so not that much lighter, especially in full sun. I would at least try RP at full strength just to see what you think....See MorePatricia Colwell Consulting
