Comments (9)I find the best bet is to keep the cuttings in a bag until callous develops THEN stick them in the dirt (and cover with a jar.) Callous keeps the black rot (which is what I fear you have) from developing. I have had stuff root after rotting some, but it does NOT HELP I am sure....See MoreHow to callous a grape cutting

Comments (4)Hold on a minute pls., you hadn't specified Succulent cuttings. Those you don't water in, but must wait 4 days or so, to allow cutting to callous or heal. Houseplant cuttings like tropicals should be watered in immediately, but if that's done to succulent they will rot.. Important distinction, particularly going into cooler weather....See MoreG Fox
