Help ID Maker Marks bowl/dish.& chinese mark
Comments (18)Of course you can display it....soak it in 20% peroxide or clorox for several days and it will lighten up. And it probably isn't what's displayed on Worth Point as it's not an Aesthetic Movement pattern. The Chinese piece isn't discolored in the same way the English piece is....the glaze is not crackled....so all the soaking in the world won't change the discoloration.....but a good scrubbing will. And the mark is most likely NOT computer generated. That is a real piece of old Chinese porcelain, but I don't believe from 1890.....more like 1910. The Chinese often used the dynasty mark years after that dynasty had ended. 2 nice old pieces....but dirty. Clean them up....the colors won't fade. Linda C...See MoreValue of 1920s ish bedroom set
Comments (11)The other question is how you want to sell it, and as Linda says, how fast. For illustrative purposes, if you drive it over to your local Value Village it would be gone very quickly and you would get zero for it. If you post it on craigslist, the lower the price, the faster it will go. Generally the most you will get on craigslist is about half what someone expects to pay in a store. If you take it to a consignment or antique dealer, it may sell slowly but for a relatively high price, although you will only get half of that. The reason for that is that someone else does the selling work for you and stores it until it sells. If you've ever sold (or bought) anything on craigslist you'll appreciate the service a store provides, from showing the piece at the buyer's convenience to processing a payment. Not to mention loading into someone's car. Ebay prices may be more like a store, but you have to deal with shipping... and with the luck factor - could go very low if you have no reserve! You also have to consider whether you want to sell as a set or individual pieces. I really like the tall cabinet, the dresser maybe not so much, and double beds are definitely a niche market these days. OK, so what would I pay for it?? $400 for the cabinet, $250 for the dresser, $200 for the smoking stand, and $125 for the bed. Note: this is not an appraisal, but a hypothetical buyer, so I may even be lowballing, esp on the cabinet. You should probably ask more to start with, and gauge the response. A dealer who sells for you on consignment might be the only person as motivated as you to get the highest price possible. The voice of ignorance asks, why is this a smoking stand and not a night stand? KarinL...See MoreAntique Bedroom Set

Comments (7)Thank you for your response. I haven't been up to PB or called, but after exhaustive browsing (or exhausting browsing) I found a king canopy bed very similar in design to the PB Farmhouse bed. It is made by a company called Orville & Mead and is in their Dearborne Collection. This company is a subsidiary (or other business arrangement) of Durham Furniture. I talked to a sales rep at Boyles and got a quote of $1567 for the bed, $141 for the canopy, and $617 for a night stand. Free shipping if order exceeds $2K. O&R's site claims the piece is "solid maple" construction. Here's a link to the O&M canopy bed ($1701): http://www.orvilleandmead.com/products.php?product_id=1247 Here's a link to the PB canopy bed ($1699): http://www.potterybarn.com/products/p6400/index.cfm?pkey=cfurbedall Frankly, I prefer the design of the PB piece, and certainly prefer the PB nightstand. But, PB describes the bed construction as follows: "Headboard, footboard and canopy are solid kiln-dried mahogany. Side rails are mahogany and mahogany veneer over MDF. MDF, a man-made fiberboard consisting of wood fibers and resin binders, is known for its strength and stability, and is commonly used as a base for veneers. It features uniform consistency with no knots, and while it has about the same density as medium-weight hardwood, it is structurally more stable. It won't crack, and finishes adhere well to it, which results in a smooth end coat. Kiln drying is a process that removes moisture from wood and ensures that it will not split, warp, crack or mildew. Platform-support slats are solid hardwood. Finished on all sides with multi-step hand-applied Espresso stain with lacquer finish." MDF? for seventeen hundred bucks! The sad thing is we'll probably end up with this piece, because of the design. Talk me out of it! 10-Q...See Moretartanmeup
