Natural stone vs. porcelain tile on shower floor?

Hi, I am currently remodeling my master. bathroom. I am considering a limestone hexagonal tile for my shower floor. The tile store and my contractor assure me that I will have no issues using a natural stone in the shower. However, everything I read online says it's a bad choice. I want to trust the professionals, but it's so confusing when online searches tell me to only use porcelain. Any helpful suggestions would be appreciated! Thank you!

Are either of the tile store person or the contractor actually qualified stone installers? Or professional stone and tile cleaners?

Limestone is porous. If you like, you can get a sample, weigh it, then soak it in water for a day to see it absorb water. Then take the sample and leave it in your current shower where you won't trip over it for a week or two while it accumulates soap scum. Try to clean it using only special limestone cleaners that you can buy from the tile shop.

We have limestone in our bathroom now and CANNOT WAIT to remove it during our upcoming remodel project! Granted we haven't kept up with regular sealing (the house was built in 1993 and we're the third owners), but even a small drop of shampoo etches the tile! It does, however, feel very soft and comfortable on bare feet, especially when heated during the winter months.

I'm a huge fan of rustic, natural, honest materials, but I'm also a huge fan of a low maintenence lifestyle. Current house has a lot of iron in the water, so natural stone would never have worked. New house has much better water, so I may choose a stone for a couple baths, but only stone that I can confirm are very easy care.

I think using natural stone as your bathroomtile would be much better. I got my new bothroom just recently. Aand I made almost everything made of natural stone in my bathroom. they look so great . stone sink stonetub stonetitle and stone sanitary ware. I did copy and paste the following to save time typing. Rectified tile is tile that has been mechanically finished on all sides to achieve uniformity and precision. During the manufacturing process, an extra step is taken to grind the tile to precise and consistent dimensions.The most sought after feature of rectified tile is that the uniform size allows for tile to be installed with narrow grout joints. The narrow grout joints create a seamless, continuous look that is desired by designers. It is recommended by the industry that grout joints for rectified tile must be at least 1/8” wide. Rectified Tile vs. Non-Rectified Tile Non-rectified tiles are quite different than rectified tiles. Non-rectified tiles vary slightly in size from each production run. There is no extra step to ensure precision amongst size as there is for rectified tile. Due to the size variations, wider grout joints are needed to align the tile during installation.

Daltile offers a number of limestone-look porcelain tiles that can be installed on a shower floor. The Esta Villa Terrace Beige EV98 and Affinity Beige AF02 for example, are rather similar in appearance to @Julie K's actual limestone.
