Which David Austin (DA, english) roses last longest in a vase?
Comments (37)I have found the English Roses to be a disappointment as cut flowers. It isn't just the short vase life, a lot of them have weak stems too that can't hold the large blooms upright for flower arranging. I'm moving away from them because of these faults. There are a few exceptions. Of the David Austin roses that I've grown FAIR BIANCA (white) and EVELYN (apricot pink) did the best as cut flowers, but good luck finding them in commerce. The hybrid tea ROUGE ROYALE (red) looks like an Austin rose but does extremely well as a cut flower. I can get blooms that last a week in a vase. GOLDEN CELEBRATION (yellow) is great if you live in an area not plagued by black spot. To condition the vase water add a pinch of sugar and one or two drops of bleach. Don't forget to recut the stems under water in the sink and then immediately plunk the roses into the vase. If air gets into the stem then it will form a bubble, travel up the stem, and collapse the bloom. Not a big deal if you only want one or two days of vase life, but I grow roses as much for cut flowers as garden specimens....See MoreOrdering directly from David Austin
Comments (70)Where are you located in MI? I think you should be able to find campanula at a local nursery. I live in MI, about 30 minutes north of Detroit. There are a few nurseries close to me with nice perennial selections. You could call a few to see if they have the plant you’re looking for in stock. I’ve purchased plants from Bluestone, but the plants are pretty small and expensive. I usually purchase from them when they’re having a sale or if they have something I can’t find locally and have to have....See MoreHave you ordered your David Austins yet?
Comments (42)For the past two years they were sending them to me in mid February which I always considered late for my region. It's really best to get them started in the coolest time which is January here. I've lost a few of them the passed couple of years (2 out of 6 and 3 out of 8) and I attribute it to that. Luckily they have a wonderful guarantee and readily replaced them without hassle. Im hoping this year I'll have a better success rate as they are already potted. :)...See MoreDoes anyone know where I can find David Austin’s The Prince Rose?
Comments (17)Northland Rosarium did indeed ask me, and I told them they could use any of my pics, I’m glad to see a few of my pic on their website. Another small rose seller used a few of my HMF pictures without asking. It doesn’t bother me too much persomally, but would have been better if they asked for permission. I’m a bit cautious about ordering from Garden Roses LLC, but I did go ahead and order 3 plants, not enough to be really upset if they don’t come through. Nate did just send an email about their inventory of some high demand varieties being out of stock(Evelyn, Abe etc), so it really does look like he is keeping tabs. I hope it’s a good experience for all....See MoreAdelaide (Z8b Canada)
