Your home is beautiful! There are actually many options for modernizing your traditional home. The first thing I see that screams “traditional” is the window design. You said you were getting new windows, which is great. Consider windows with clean lines and a minimalist style. Secondly, the color of your home is definitely traditional. Consider a neutral color palette or natural tones. If you have replaced the windows and maybe repainted your home, you may want to consider taking down the shutters. They give the home a colonial vibe, which is the exact opposite of what your going for. I’m not sure what your budget is, but the last way to modernize your home would be to simplify architectural detailing. For example, straighten the lines of your entry. Consider square pillars and ditching the curve of the porch cover. This gets pretty pricey, not to mention any complications, so consider this a last resort. If your looking for one last improvement, update the garage doors. Good luck! Make sure to post pictures of your progress!

IMO strive for modern farmhouse look so no grids in black windows a new portico remove the dentil molding along the roof and then a bit more modern type landscaping. I think you could do this type of window too IMO there is no reason to not try to modernize a simple home like yours No shutters for sure and a redo of the garage door shape that is squared off

Just keep it, please. I’m tired of seeing perfectly nice homes forced into something they aren’t. It’s traditional and lovely. If you don’t want that, then find something you like or ignore the exterior and decorate the inside the way you want.

Of course, there are things that you CAN do to make this house 'modern,' but should you? This is a lovely, classic example of a traditional home, and I would hate to see it 'remuddled' into something it is not. Even with the changes recommended above (windows, shutter removal, portico change, etc.), this beautiful home will never look like 'modern architecture,' nor will it BE modern architecture, which would be a more organic symbiosis between interior and exterior. Updating to modern farmhouse, will not improve on what you have, in my opinion. Of course, it is your opinion that matters, and you have received some good ideas; I happen to love and appreciate many, many different architectural styles, but unfortunately, cannot afford to own multiple homes to accommodate my desires to experience each style.

Instead of making structural changes (and if I hated my neighbors!) I would do something similar to this below, and with your house keep the shutters on but paint them pure white too, but replace your peaked portico with a glass or acrylic peaked structure. It would be especially fun to get acrylic portico columns. (However I’d save the real thing in the garage to give to the next owner)

This could be done with any one color. (Gray would be really hokey.) Something else that would be fun is to hire painters who would paint the entire house to look like it was completely wallpapered on the outside, with a great ridiculously expensive wallpaper. Maybe a blown-up version of this pattern, with beige shutters

If I did it in all-pure-white, then I would pick a really startling fabric for drapes inside that were visible from the outside. (Come to think of it, transparent acrylic shutters might be fun with that.) I’d do something extremely modernist for landscaping, probably with container plants.

Don't try to make a house into something it isn't. This is the equivalent of marrying someone so you can "fix" them. It's a terrible idea.

There are things that you can do to improve on what you have (those clipped garage door openings - and possibly the garage doors themselves - for example).

But in general, the home looks great as a traditional exterior. If you want a contemporary, buy a contemporary.

It's a beautiful, traditional home. Taking the traditional features out of the home will just make it look plain, not more modern. Love the house as it is or move to the contemporary style you like, but don't ruin this one.

This reminds me of the houses in my parents’ very desired neighborhood in Atlanta and I say keep the shutters and embrace the style. This is what these homes look like to me when shutters are removed.

I like the house, it’s nice. I’d keep the peaked portico but square off the circular front on it, instead having the front trim follow its roof line. It would be a cleaner look that still works with the style of the house.
