electric glass top slide in range - glass touch control or knobs?

I am in the process of buying a new slide in electric range. The Kitchen Aid model, I like but it has knobs on the front and a 3-4" stainless rim before the cooktop glass that contains the oven controls. I'm worried that large area of stainless will be easily scratched as you put pans etc on the cooktop - mostly my family of not very careful people. Also, wondering how easily to turn on cooktop by accidently pressing on front knobs?

The GE model I like has glass controls with a touch glide system. The entire surface of the range is glass - cooktop and control panel. This seems like it would be more easy to keep clean but wondering about touch controls etc.

Maybe I'm overthinking this, but I hate scratched stainless and I hate nagging people to be careful!
