Ideas for new vanity and linen cabinet
Comments (32)Thank you, may flowers. I do love my medicine cabinet! It came to me as two separate cabinets, also from a salvage shop. I realized it would be hard to recess them into the wall, as they measure about 40 x 40, so I had the contractor wall-mount them and make it look more built-in by putting the ledge underneath. The top is built up to match our window trim (sorry no photo that shows the top; chaos reigns here right now). They used to be that kind of pickled oak finish, so this is evidence of the beauty of white paint!...See MoreWall cabinet above toilet in water closet/toilet room
Comments (9)I've always loved this one...and yes it is pricey! Google it and you can find it elsewhere for a little bit cheaper. As I recall, there was some sight that had it in white, black and this distressed color. I never bought it cause I've not had the right bathroom for it. The one I did buy came from Lowe's and it matches the vanity I bought there. It was substantially cheaper then the one I linked, but I've just always loved this one. I will try to find a link to the one I bought.....I'm not sure it's on line. Comments (19)You can avoid the need for door-swing space by getting drawers on the outsides of the vanity. One possibility that you have not discussed here is to get a trough sink vanity with two faucets. Then you do not have to remodel for resale. If you get a vanity with drawers, you will have accessible towel storage in the bottom deep drawers and storage for smaller items in the upper drawers. Once you remove the wall, you may be able to get a 60" vanity, which will give you many more choices for your vanity. This one is 60" here at Houzz and is one of the few not sold with top and sink, so you may put in any that you choose. The bottom drawers on both sides are double-high, so this vanity has seven drawers!A wide trough sink like this one would technically make this a two-person vanity. And it is small enough that all of the plumbing would fit into the door cabinet part. Really, when a second person is there, often they just need to rinse a tooth brush and spit into the sink or wet a wash cloth while the other is shaving, and this kind of set-up works fine for that. My hubby and I managed that with a single faucet with a swivel mount on a tiny 30" Home Depot Euro-style "belly sink" for years. I don't know what your floor space is going to feel like after you take down the wall, but if you feel you have room to walk around it, they make a matching linen tower. It is 24" wide and 20" deep and 6 ft tall. A linen tower over across from the end of the vanity will keep the vanity area feeling spacious. It is another option instead of having the tall linen tower on the counter looming over you. With all of the drawers you can get in a 60" vanity, do you need the tower? I have a 60" vanity in our main bath now, and it is pretty useless, but that is because it has no drawers at all. As I suggested above, if you are short on floor space, you can have any cabinetry sunk into the wall. Simply have the builder do a header to carry the weight of the stud that needs to be removed, and frame around the opening with a bit of wood trim painted to match the cabinet. You can take the drawer front or door in to the paint shop for a match to be made, or have the trim painted the wall color....See MoreShould I keep the makeup vanity??
Comments (27)Carolina - When I sit I don't use the large wall mirror for anything other than getting an overall view. In my old bedroom vanity I had a lit makeup mirror that also magnified for close up work. For the most part it worked except for the occasional preparation that could have used a bit of water :-) My old bedroom suite is being refinished and the vanity is being repurposed into two end tables. My designer and I had considered retaining the vanity table but it seemed to make more visual sense to open up the bedroom with less furniture and put the vanity sitting area in the bathroom so the second sink is completely useless to me. I understand people want a second sink but even when I got ready at the same time, the amount of time I needed to actually hover OVER a sink which minimal so moving over to the vanity area for my lengthier ablutions is no hardship and gives me increased functionality as well as counter space. In my new bathroom, I am having a telescoping lit up magnifying mirror attached :-) so I will sit and not be leaning over anything. But I am not saying this is how anyone else should or does perform personal functions - only that for me personally, I have always sat because between drying hair and makeup or whatever else I am doing, it is more comfortable and gives me better access to a mirror. And I say again that people should really forget about what mythical buyers in the future may or may not want when they remodel because you can't predict it and doing so prevents one from making a space function and look in a way that the current inhabitant will get the most pleasure from....See MoreHU-996302531
