Schefflera plant health question

I have a schefflera plant that has strange looking spiky growths on its (trunk?). Was wondering if it's something I should be concerned about. The plant otherwise seems fine. Thanks for you help! - Abby

They’re adventitious roots. Perfectly normal, especially in a humid atmosphere.

Not much info is right. I think its a cross of S. actinophylla and S.arboricola. For me in the SF Bay area the larger Schefflera is hit and miss..some big ones. S.arboracola is very hardy here. So I guess I should expect Amate to be 10 a- low end- hardy. But other things like..will it flower? No information on that. No info on growth speed. And a photo of one outdoors in California is nowhere to be found. I would think its going be less gangly and less invasive root wise,then the common Shefflera. ALL guesses.

Hi ! What ever you do, your local wild violets will always be taller than viola odorata 'kÃ¶nigin Charlotte', moreover if they are sororia. I'm not good at inches (sorry, we don't use it in Europe ;oP) but 2 (5 cm) is ok, not a shame for an odorata in a yard. It can become bigger in a pot with good compost. All the best - Thierry :-)

What dictates seed viability is 1) maturity of the fruit at harvest - harvested too soon means immature seeds, and 2) storage of those seeds after harvesting - avoid exposure to heat and humidity. So fruit appearance makes no real difference. If the fruit was harvested correctly and if that fruit has not been exposed to heat and humidity then the seeds should be viable from any of the fruit and should produce equal plants. That reminds me of photos I've seen of plants exposed to cold. Did it experience any cold? The other question, is there a drain hole in that pot and does the potting soil drain fast? They're the first things that come to mind when looking at that photo.

If you don't like their appearance, you can remove them w/o harming the plant.

Tip: If you decide to remove them, sooner is better because in order to grow, the plant will necessarily devote food/energy resources that could be put to better use elsewhere.

The fact that these roots grow easily on Schefflera is a clue to how easy they are to propagate. If you want more, cuttings are a cinch.

the plant is leaning significantly .... and is huge ... it might be time to start a new one.. and get rid of this old beast ...

when is the last time it was repotted .. media does wear out .. and repotting such a huge plant is not easy ...

if it were mine.. and understanding it is going to become a problem in the next few years.. i would start a few new ones.. and get them going.. and then make a decision on the momma plant ...

btw.. if you turned the plant once a month or so... it wouldnt have developed the lean .. in theory anyway ....
