Noticed a similar fungus near my daylillies only this was yellow. Did look like melted marshmallows, up to an inch thick and appears to be only on top of the soil. I attributed it to all the rain we had last week. It was half on tripple shredded hardwood mulch spred in the early spring and soil ammended with lots of leaf mulch. It did spread to bare soil on one end. Sorry I didn't get a picture before removing it!

Sea grape (Coccoloba uvifera) is quite resistant to salt. It naturalizes in colonies along the ocean. The "what to do" is to drag out the phone book, look up arborists in the yellow pages and ask several to come by and evaluate your situation. You should have done this yesterday as it sounds like a significant tree you do not want to lose. Sea grape is generally known to be disease resistant. However, there are reported problems such as anthracnose infecting them. This needs treatment. Get a professional opinion. There are people who say "spray fungicide" at any possible sign of fungus and there are people like me who refuse to use it. Nitrogen exacerbates fungal problems, so it's generally good to hold off on fertilizer if you suspect fungus. However you may have had nitrogen deficiency and needed some. Thank goodness you didn't use the urea! Milorganite for the most part is slow release. Try keep the grass blades dry, so if you need to water, do it early in the day so the grass can dry off before evening. I dont think they are bugs. The white stuff is powdery and wipes off easily. In fact if you wipe it off dry it get airborne. But whatever it is, its killing my plants and spreading to other plants. So unless the mealy bugs are microscopic and blow away in the wind, its something else. I took all my plants outside today and sprayed them off with a strong spray of the hose. It’s hard tho because thecshite stuff is thickest in the nooks and crannys of the ”branches” of the plants and I cant spray that. I will try the soak you suggested, just hope it doesn’t kill the plants. But I think that soak kills fungus and bugs. But bugs? I didnt see them - or feel them as I sprayed and wiped the leaves off. I know these mealy bugs like tropicals. But besides me, not a lot of tropicals in Syracuse NY so I doubt this pest is even around here And I’ve had that Bird of Paradise for 15 years with no issues.
