ETA: So true about them being art. Leather work is an awesome talent ... I‘ve had saddles, headstalls, spur straps, etc that were just so incredibly intricate and beautiful. The artists tell stories through them.

Gorgeous! You had me at the first pair. I couldnt get them on, or if I did they wouldn’t come off and I would be stuck paying for them. I have such a high I step I have always had trouble getting any of them on.

If only I had a few grand ..... Okay maybe 10 or 15 grand. There are several pairs I'd love to have!

You should have just called those "cowgirl boots." I do not know a single cowboy in Texas who would be caught dead in any of those - cowgirls are a different case.

I bought some black crocodile boots the last time I was in Tucson, but I've never worn them. My brothers wear them, and the one in California has some that are part stingray shagreen. He also has some ostrich ones, but those are common.

Oh, I know guys here in Texas who would wear many of the boots on that site! Then again, I have known some rather colorful Texan characters, so maybe that has a lot to do with it.

‘Cowboy boots’ is the common vernacular. It’s all I’ve ever heard.

A lot of real cowboys here wear their pants tucked in, so they have tall, embellished boots with cool designs made. It (and chaps) protects their jeans from being ripped apart by Mesquite trees and cacti when they’re horseback. I can say with experience how much it hurts brushing by Mesquite thorns while herding cattle.

Nope. That’s not true, as a generalized statement. Some males like more elaborate boots than any I’ve ever had. It’s a very personalized thing. Some ranches even have boots made with their own brands, including my uncle (cutting horse trainer since the ‘60s, very well known). And for horse shows — the males have just as elaborate boots as females.

When I read threads like this, I feel like Elizabeth Taylor in Giant in her Virginian home.

Such different perspectives, East and West Coast and all that wild west in between!

Sorry, Lars! You probably were teasing, but I was feeling as prickly as that picture Jinx posted above, already aware that not everyone here has any interest in this topic, but hoping to share with the handful who do.

I still maintain that some of y'all simply don't know your Texas cowboys though. The traditional way of dressing has become so highly stylized, and boots especially are a coveted (and pricey) form of artistic expression for many. I know ranch owners with collections that are nothing short of incredible. Like so many things, it’s a loving nod to the past, crafted by artists who have created their own niche. It's a "thing" whether others realize it or not!

Jinx, have you visited Leddy's in downtown FW? I could never afford a single thing in that store, but they had some gorgeous offerings and the window displays constantly lured me in.

Love Leddy’s! Have had many saddles made by them (handed down through family). Anytime we used to host out-of-state guests, we’d take them to Cattlemen’s for dinner, then walk over to Leddy’s. :) My uncle has always been friends with their family.

DH is from MN and only recently became interested in cowboy boots. He bought his first pair and is still breaking them in. It's not uncommon to see him wearing them around the house with a t-shirt and boxer briefs and nothing else. Cracks me up!

That’s awesome! When Mr Jinx moved here, he’d never worn anything western. He was eager to, so we hit up some local places. He loves his boots and jeans (Cinch, Ariat, etc). And it’s so cute when his job takes him to area ranches ... he’ll excitedly text me pics of the livestock he sees. :D He’s a big fan of longhorns now.

Yep! Used to go to Sheplers in Arlington fairly often, although I never wore western style clothing until I was in my 30s really. My "best friend" in high school once told me that I lacked a curvaceous enough figure to pull off a pair of Wranglers, and that kinda stuck with me. (Some BF she was, huh!)

As an aside, I just came across this and thought of how talented you and Mr. Jinx are when it comes to creative pursuits and how beautifully ya'll could make something like this. Isn't it cool!

ETA: There’s a big booth at Montgomery Street Antique Mall filled with things like that, and industrial and steampunk decor. It’s fun to browse, the guy is so creative and talented.

Yes! There’s a small booth you’ll love (in the big main area) ... they deal only in vintage and antique southwestern decor. Genuine old Navajo rugs, pottery, jewelry, baskets, and other decor. It can be pricey, but such wonderful collector items.

I think I know the one, if it's been there awhile. Wonderful vintage pieces with patina (and character!), but yes, a little on the proud price tag side.

Y’all are making me laugh, and get homesick, LOL. DH and I were on the way to his college roommate’s funeral in Flower Mound, and traffic was lighter than expected, so we had an hour to kill. We stopped at Leddy’s, because I needed show chaps. I saw these boots on the rack, and the salesgirl came over and told me they were hers. Custom made, but she had developed a foot problem and only worn them once. I put them on, and they fit perfectly!!! Peach has never been my favorite color, but I could NOT pass these up!

I've been curious how Lucchese is pronounced in the US -- does it retain the hard "c" as in the original Italian? (Lucchese -- a person from the city or province of Lucca.)

I was getting my Paint stallion ready to show, but I never did...LOL. I do not normally ride western. Those chaps I ordered took MONTHS to come in, and I have never even worn them. They are WAY too big now.

The cowboys I've know in Texas (and I've not been back in many years) were very conservative in their dress and had extremely strict dress codes, including the required faded circle from the snuff box in the back pocket of Wranger jeans. No other brand of jeans was acceptable, and they could very easily identify someone who was an outsider from the way they dressed.

I had a cousin who performed in rodeos, and she wore very fancy boots.

Many people in Texas who wear boots are not cowboys at all.
