How much 'bling' do you have around your sink?
Comments (34)Kate, an air gap is a device that's required in California and a few other places; it's to provide an overflow so that your dishwasher doesn't suck water from the sewer, or some such thing (that's entirely wrong but it's some similar plumbing dynamic that's too tedious for me to google right now). Most regions just allow you to loop your dishwasher hose up high next to the appliance (usually under the sink), which apparently provides for the same function. The ones who don't will sometimes make exceptions for European brands like Miele and Bosch - guess it depends on your local inspector. An air switch is that cool little gidget that activates an electrical switch via a whoosh of air, so you can use it with wet soapy hands and not give yourself a perm. -- My copper bling, for what it's worth: Moen Aberdeen faucet, faucet handle, air switch for disposal (really great since I have no real wall on that wall), and filtered drinking water faucet. To gross out those of you without pets (remodeling is thirsty work!):...See MoreWhitehaven Sink - Did anyone not get White?
Comments (12)Sorry to high jack this thread but I figure those who did answer have a whitehaven. BTW I have a white 30" and I love how it looks. I have not been able to use it yet but hope to soon. My cabinets are cloud white and I find the white works fine. My question is about sink grids. Did you whitehaven people get a stainless sink grid? Was it worth it? Did anyone get one of the silicon mats they sell in places like BBB and home goods? I have found the kohler sink grid on a few web sites for about $63....See MoreDo you have Whitehaven sink in Sea Salt color?
Comments (8)It's gorgeous in Sea Salt. The color is still very white but it has beautiful depth, kind of like the difference between a flat tile and a crackle finish tile. I'm looking at Cane Sugar which is the Biscuit color but with the depth like Sea Salt. It really does make a difference but I recommend that you see it in person since it's such a large up charge. I think it's worth it, especially with the Whitehaven since you'll see so much of the apron. Good luck!...See MoreWhen did you have appliances delivered during remodeling?
Comments (17)I hate to be a wet noodle, but here's another caution. I don't know if you saw, but a couple months ago I wrote that our house was broken into during our remodel & a brand new 5 ton ac system was stolen from the garage. If you are going to store appliances in the house just make sure you can secure them & have alarm, etc. to protect your investment. We figure it was an "inside job" b/c only a small universe of people knew the ac had been delivered. But, if people know you are working on house, be sure to protect yourself & your stuff. Now, all that said, I wish I had had my new panel ready fridge delivered earlier because when it arrived we discovered that it has black trim that the cabinet guy seems not to be able to figure out how to cover. I ordered it months ago & it has been sitting in appliance shop's warehouse waiting for me to give the go ahead. So, there's an instance where it would have been better to have it delivered sooner so we could figure out how to deal with issues that come up. I would say the same about stove & sink as well. Cabinet & granite people do seem to want/need to see those in order to get final measurements right. So, it's a hard call. Good luck & enjoy the new kitchen!...See MoreJoseph Corlett, LLC
