Best way to manage and groom/cut back rosemary
Comments (3)You can cut it back to about 1/3 of what it is now. First check to see if any of the lower branches have rooted in. If so, you can cut them from the mother plant and pot them up or put them directly into the soil. You do realize that the rosemary is happy, and will grow back to an unmanageable size again unless you constantly prune/harvest it? Your garden is obviously a great spot for the rosemary, as well as other plants! I think you are in need of some rosemary recipes. If you want some, e-mail me and I'll send them along. Comments (1)Yes, pot them into clay pots with well drained soil. Continue to treat them as "cuttings", do not let them dry put! Keep them in the shade until it starts to cool off in the fall. When it has cooled off plant them in the ground if that is the intent. Preferable after they have defoliated. Realize that the commercially available plants are grafted onto standard Acer palmatum rootstock and that your cuttings are going to grow much slower that one that have been grafted....See MoreBest Way to Propagate Holly Cuttings?
Comments (5)My wife seen an article about growing holly cuttings. She has always loved holly but she would rather grow them her self rather then purchase a full grown plant. She has great luck saving almost dead plant and does great at growing from seeds as well. My line of work takes me to many areas of town and in some cases out of state but in our sane zone. We really don't have much of a winter here but it has it moments. I recently started gathering seeds and seed pods in the area and I have see about 10 to 15 different varieties of holly. Doing research on how to tell them apart get a bit rough at times but from what I can tell the best way is by the shape of the leaves. I have collected only about 3 different varieties so far and the time for gathering them is almost over I think. The more rare varieties around didn't have berries. I'm not sure what gender they are. I didn't see them bloom. My question is. If I gather cutting from these plants in spring while I'm at work and keep them in water what are the chances they would they still be sufficient for propagating from??...See MoreWhat is the best way to root an apple tree cutting?
Comments (3)I recently tried rooting 20 dormant woody apple cuttings (waterspouts/suckers). Only one successfully rooted. A few looked like they tried, but then stopped short. All were still green under the bark. Apparently, they sealed off the cut area instead of growing roots. I followed the usual procedure, except I put them in a cold room with a heat mat underneath to promote root growth only....See MoreSoCal Stewart (San Diego, Ca Zone 10A/10B)
