My opinion is that it will be tough to make two identical planters look the same with a significant difference in light. As you discovered last year, you will have one grow well and one less well, and which is better depends on what you planted. You can easily keep it similar (like red petunias in one vs. red impatiens in another) or if it were me, I'd mix up one or two same plants with different accent/thriller plants as the central focus. For example, Bacopa grows nicely in either situation (still wont be identical though). With white blooms that cascade over, the idea would be to present the same color SCHEME (taller purples; shorter yellows, or what have you) vs. the exact same layout/plant. The eye would catch a flurry of your choice of colors on this side and the other -- without zooming into a noticeable size and quality difference of two identical plants where one is visibly thriving over to other. Just my thoughts!

Thanks for the input. My Window boxes are approximately 4' long 1' wide and 5" deep I am trying to stay away from perenials as they are kind of pricey for window boxes. I tried a few perennials in my pots last year, which looked very nice, but the plants out grew their pots before the end of the season, and were pretty much dead by the time I tried to replant them into my garden. It was a waste of time and money. I would really like to stick with annuals if I can. I will definitely try the Begonias. Thanks so much for your input. It is greatly appreciated.

Dumpthe soil, clean thepot and buy some new quality potting soil. The following are good plants for a shade spot. If you want color you can get that effect with colorful foilage Caladium, Coleus, Purple Oxlis. A good shade flowering plant -Impatience These are also good plants for your lighting situation. -Small Hostas, Ferns,

I live in Webster,Chase pitkin on Holt Rd has some nice mums. I never buy them but these are so pretty. They also had some nice sun annuals. If you know Grossmans they might have some nice plants. RTE 250 in Penfield. Check out their website, www.grossmans.com for coupons and sales. Lots of places get in new annuals all the time. For fall people like mums,cabbages and more pansies. Check around . Trolley Bed in Victor and Bristols are other options. Check in almost where they sell plants and you'll find something. Id ask about mums and this heat though.
