Dracaena leaves looking droopy

Hi everyone,

I am very saddened by the sudden state of my dracaena.

This is picture of it in November 2020, notice how the leaves are all still pointing upward and strong.

And then this year, all of a sudden, I notice some of its leaves looking so limp. Look at the 'head' on the right compared to the one on the left:

Here's a close-up:

I have noticed small white bugs that cluster together that LOOK like mealybugs, but much smaller. Like little white specks about 0.1mm long on some of the affected leaves and sprayed them with some Dr Gannick Scale Terminator...but the leaves still look like this.

Can anyone please help? It pains me greatly to see my once beautiful dragon tree look like this now...

last pic.. as compared to the others. makes it look rather yellow .. is that a camera trick??

whats in the pot.. all those clay balls... just decorative mulch ... or some new age potting media???

notice all the scars on the 4 branches.. all those are from older leaves falling off ... its cyclical and annual ... have many of them fallen off this winter??.. im WONDERING... of some of what you are seeing.. is that the plant just looks messy ... because all those old leaves are clogging up the space between the 4 ... its the long older leaves that are droopy ... it sure looks like all your newest growth is upright .. in other words.. maybe nothing is wrong that a little selective removal of older leaves might help make it look better ...

lets see if anyone agrees with that ...

Thanks so much for replying.

Yes, the leaves are slightly paler than the other green ones.

The 'clay balls' are LECA. It is indeed a kind of mulch to protect the soil. I've been told they actually absorb humidity to keep the soil kind of damp.

Hmm..about the leaves dropping...I live in tropical Singapore where its spring all year round. The leaves dont drop as much as I kind of cut them off when they get almost all brown.

It seems like some of the old leaves are not standing as upright as they all did in my very first pic so that worries me. I know what you mean about how some of the leaves are drooping...I've looked closer and realised their bases are quite thin and so it becomes top heavy and droops down.

About the lamp..it's purely aesthetic. Does not do much at all!

I asked an FB group on gardening and they told me to try spraying Mr Gannick Foliar Fertiliser on the leaves so I've tried that today. I'll keep this updated.

Flushing just means watering a LOT, to the point that water is freely draining out of the bottom of the pot. This flushes out salts, anaerobic/anoxic decomposition products, and returns new air to the root system. Most of us are used to watering a small amount at a time only because our soils collapse, drain slowly and have a perched water table... so we've been conditioned to only put in as much water as the plant can quickly use up. If you use a freely draining mix and thus don't have a perched water table, you essentially cannot overwater. This lets you "flush" the pot from time to time (or even at every watering). It also greatly decreases the amount of salts that are left behind by evaporating water.

Hi everyone! I have had this tree for a few months now and it was doing great until recently :( All of its leaves used to be completely sticking out straight and now they are all getting droopy! Started with the bottom and now the leaves at the top are slowly drooping as well. It sits in a corner by a pretty well lit window and I do mist it often. I also occasionally spray it with Safer's insect killing spray for houseplants because recently one my cactus's passed away due to a horrible case of mealy bugs! However, I have yet to see any sign of infestation on this tree. I water whenever the soil is dry two inches down (i just stick my finger in about to my knuckle) and I ONLY use filtered water.. Never tap water. I have killed about three plants due to over watering so i have been very cautious with this one and only water when soil gets a bit dry! Please help :(

I just use commercial potting mix for general use and sometimes add a little top soil and peat moss. I usually feed once a month, during the growing season, with fish emulsion (5-1-1). I water when the first inch or so of soil feels a little dry, altho last winter I think I let this one get drier than that. In fall and winter, it sits on the floor in front of a picture window which faces east. Also, I just remembered that there's an electric heat register pretty close to it there. Even tho I don't turn the heat on much, maybe that's what did it. I don't think those two plants will ever grow normally. Maybe I should cut them out. There were two taller plants that I cut and these two deformed ones grew from the cut stems.
