I made a couple more changes and updated SF. Total SF is a little under 3600. bpathome, I moved the sink to the front of the pantry. My wife uses the Keurig every morning so it probably makes more sense to have that at the front of the pantry adjacent to the sink. Does the pantry look good now? I also decreased the offset between the kitchen and the foyer by a foot (adding a foot to the south for the kitchen), which added a foot to the pantry and allowed me to move the island a little bit farther south so it doesn't block the walkway from the garage to the great room/master suite. I added a foot to the north for the great room and dining area, which decreased the depth of the covered patio to 11 feet. Is this deep enough? We want to have a sitting area on the covered patio, but also don't want it so deep that it severely limits natural light in the back of the house. I could add a foot to the north for the laundry room and sitting area if the patio needs to be at least 12'. Jackson, We appreciate the suggestion, but I don't think I want the laundry room directly behind the great room (in case the laundry is running while watching TV, etc) and would prefer the W/D to also be a little farther from our bed. We're not concerned about having to walk through the master suite to get to the laundry. Other than kids bringing dirty clothes in there, my wife and I should be the only ones using that room. We would love to have more suggestions for our floor plans. We have incorporated most of the suggestions from our first thread into the updated plans, but would love to hear more ideas! Thanks again! I understand that sleep deprivation with a new baby in the house can make one forgetful, but I really think you'll be able to remember the close the basement door. DH and I have twins, and we physically "tagged off" so we knew exactly who was in charge of watching the boys when they were first mobile, and until they could be trusted alone together for 30 seconds without poking each other in the eye, biting, or throwing blocks at each others' heads. If I was home alone with them, I would bring them to the bathroom with me. Our house was well baby-proofed, but that simply doesn't replace supervision. Here's an example. My Mom has a lake cabin, and we go there a lot in the summer. The rule for our sons was that they could not go on the dock without a grownup. I know a lot of people who let their kids on a dock if they are wearing a life jacket, but I much preferred direct supervision until they were big/old enough to be safe on their own. Each of my kids managed to fall off the dock, with me within inches of them. One went in feet first, and I simply pulled him up by the arms; the other was fishing, on his hands and knees, leaned over, and went in head first - between the dock and boat lift. Again, I was inches away, and pulled him out by the feet. Had he been wearing a life jacket, he would have gotten wedged in the narrow space, head underwater. Being on the dock with them did not prevent them from going in the drink, but it allowed me to yank them out immediately. Trust me, you can keep an eye one one little one for the few months between crawling and negotiating stairs (teach her to go down feet first). Accidents happen - I get that, it's why they aren't called "intentionals" - but I think accidents are more likely to happen when we rely too heavily on contraptions and devices instead of eyeballs.

Sorry about your fire. What a terrible situation but I'm glad the damage wasn't more extensive. Something you need to consider when you think about enclosing a carport is building codes. Adding a door makes it an enclosed space and you may need to add 5/4" drywall that is taped and mudded, along with a self closing fire rated door if it leads into the house. Your city's code enforcement office will be able to give you details as to what exactly needs to be done.
